There's a brand new webzine looking for humor writing of all forms, and they are open for submissions now.
Back Hair Advocate is looking for well written, humorous content, so go to their submission page and see if you've got what it takes to make people laugh. It's always possible your mom was being sarcastic when she told you "You're hilarious," but now you can find out for sure!
From the site:
We are looking for poems, flash fiction, cartoons, nonfiction pieces and short stories. All of them must have two things in common: they have to be funny and well-written.
So get to it, writers.
p.s. I am simply promoting a site that sounds exciting. I have absolutely nothing to do with the site, no ties whatsoever, so it's still cool...
Heh. That's my brother.
I was reading McCarthy's 'Child of God' the other day, and in one scene the mc's shanty is burning to the ground. After reading the below simile, I had to put the book down for a while because I couldn't stop laughing.
The flames ran down the batboards and up again like burning squirrels.
I deduce from such moments that my sense of humor is probably not very good, and avoid trying to be funny as a consequence. I like the idea though. I don't read a lot of comedy fiction (depending, of course, on how you define comedy in fiction).
I think you are getting a kick back in the form of extra back hair Sean. Don't lie!
Gruesome as it is at points, I always thought Child of God had some funny scenes. Suttree as well.
A lot of them, I would say! I haven't read 'Suttree' but if the tone's similar to that in CoG I probably should.
are venomous rants a welcome genre?
@Linda -- Different tone for sure. It's way longer and pretty slow, more ponderous and wandering, but worth reading.
Thanks JYH, I'll check it out.
My brother tells me that he's still looking for stuff.
