I really want to be excited for Christmas on one hand, I love the lights and the tree and getting presents cause i'm greedy like that.  But then there is the feeling of pressure to be happy and have this wonderful holiday and everyone is so nice that it feels like they are being replaced by pod people plus the cold weather gets me all moody.  Does anyone else have issues with Christmas or December in general?  I used to think I had S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder) because I always got so mood swingy this time of year but I think it's just the expectation of something that life can't live up to.

Oh, you bigot!

I have a dream that my little month of December will one day live in a calendar where it will not be judged by the darkness of its nights but by the content of its character.

I like to think I have SAD, but I just work retail.  Christmas to me is just a bunch of capitalist bullshit of shorter days and longer work hours and customers who lose their shit over standing in a line-up for over ten minutes.  Seriously?  First world problems like this are what the Internet was created for, is so you can leave your fat ass in a chair and buy all this crappy shit for your stupid family to open up on Christmas morning and leave you the hell alone afterward.

It's just ridiculous how stressed people get about Christmas, when the simple solution would be to buy nothing and wake up on the 25th and you know, actually spend some time with the family making cookies or whatever the hell else.  Nobody NEEDS anything for Christmas.

So, aside from that I do try to balance out my sanity.  My sister and I are adults and my parents usually just give us money every year, which is nice, sure, but I try to use Christmas as a time to bond, because quite frankly, my family's pretty damn awkward and since my grandpa died a couple years ago, Christmas has been a bit blech...

What I'm most excited about is hosting Christmas, because my husband and I have a house now.  Change is always pretty good.

You grinches. No, I agree though. Were a consumerism society and that really drags me down on such a beautiful holiday. Also, I like to watch A Christmas Story once in December, not 500 times. For some reason I always get really sick around Christmas. Flu, fever, so thats not really fun when you know it's going to happen. I have to get really drunk around the holiday's though to be around my distant family. They're all insane. Well, the sober ones drive me crazy.

I dislike Christmas because people are too happy during it. That sounded very sociopathic. Well tbh I just like my winter when there isn't anyone singing carols at two in the morning, and where I can write and smoke and drink and fuck in peace like I do the rest of the year. I'm the sorta selfish asshole, that when I'm sad, I need someone to fuck up with me. Buttt....back to the original point. People are all "MERRY CHRISTMAS"-ing heartily and it pisses me off no end. I know it's Christmas. You've told me about it since July. =_= /rant

I love Christmas. It's being with your family, giving gifts that they love, and seeing the kid's faces light up when they get presents. The simplest advice is to just be happy. So what if consumerism happens like crazy. IT'S FUN TO BUY THINGS FOR PEOPLE AND IT'S FUN TO RECEIVE THINGS FROM THEM! Gifts don't prove love, but everybody likes getting a gift and the right gift can melt somebody's heart completely.

There's no expectations to live up to on Christmas. You just have to be happy and that is easy.

Oh man, I love Christmas.  I love Christmas songs (I SUPER love the Weezer Christmas album), I love drinking Bailey's and watching White Christmas (I SUPER love Bing Crosby singing Count Your Blessings), I love homemade Chex Mix hot out of the oven, I love trimming the tree.  I love basically every Christmas movie ever made.  I love buying gifts for all the kids and watching them get so excited.  I love Nativity scenes.

Yaaay Christmas!!

Why do so many people hate Christmas. I should love Christmas. Unless I crash my car in the snow, than I'll be pissed. I'll make an effort to like Christmas this year.

The problem with gifts is that people get really paranoid about getting "that perfect gift" for literally everyone they know, and they worry so much and ask me all these "WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT?!" type questions.  And it's painful.  You don't have to buy a gift for everyone, or, if you're going to go all half-assed, then give them a box of Pot of Gold.  Who doens't like Pot of Gold?

For a couple years there I was making gift baskets for my girlfriends; I bought all this great handmade stuff off Etsy.  I like the idea of supporting small business crafters this time of year instead of just doing the one big Wal-Mart trip full of crap.  Nevertheless, the gift baskets were awesome, but then they got too expensive.

I'm in the Christmas fanclub! I love the lights, the fog, the tree, the PEPPERMINT BARK! (Yep, that's my favorite). As for presents I tell my family not to get me anything unless they absolutely have too. I only get my boyfriend and my little sisters presents. Everyone else gets cookie jars.

If people can't find the perfect gift for somebody, they aren't thinking with their heart.

Seriously "Limbless K9", have you been taken over by a fully limbed K9 because you are way too happy now lol

I like Christmas too but my other personality doesn't, I go back and forth.  Today I found out I'm getting more money than I thought for something so I can buy Christmas presents for people, yay!  I just want to be an asshole until like Christmas Eve so those ghosts come and visit me and show me the future and the past and shit.  I want to go to my grave and see that no one came to my funeral and then buy a Christmas turkey and be all, "I love you gimpy!" to the little boy with polio.

Or I'm gonna threaten suicide and this ugly old man angel is gonna come and show me why I shouldn't kill myself and what the world would be like without me and say, "You really did have a Wonderful life!" and then I'll be all happy and people will bring me money so I can keep the family business open and the bells will ring and my daughter Zuzu's petals will be in my pocket and I'll kill that old fucker, Mr. Potter.

Ah, Zuzu's petals...that is like the number one most compelling symbol
I've ever ran across. I love that movie, and I cry every damn time!

Really, I live Christmas, and the whole think about stressing over "the perfect gift"? I guess I am just enough of an asshole to say if ou can't be grateful that I spent money/time/effort on buying or making you something STFU. It's their problem, not mine. Plus what would you have to talk about the day after if you didn't get at least one gift that really made you scratch your head?

Just never buy your wife a scale for Christmas unless you want to get punched in the face.

@Renee--yeah, I love that movie too despite myself.  "Buffalo Gal, won't you come out tonight?"  The part that creeps me out every time is when he goes to that creepy old man Mr. Potter and asks for his help and he goes, "You are worth more dead than alive!" and you know he has all his money in his pocket.  Oh man, I want to punch that guy in the face lol

It's A Wonderful Life is my all time favorite film. I used to watch it whenever I felt down about something, but lost my copy at my parents' house a few years ago. I'm buying it again this year. I have to figure out of I want Blu Ray or normal DVD. Such a good film!

I love December. The chill bites into your skin, but it's a refreshing sort of chill. And I love buying gifts for my friends. This whole 'perfect gift' myth is a destructive one and I don't live by it. I set a dollar limit per face I'm buying for and I buy whatever reminds me of them, as long as it's something the two of us have shared. Example: I bought my friend a wiimote in the shape of the eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver because she and I watch the show together and she has a wii. I love seeing what my friends got me, what they thought I'd like and everything. (You can tell if someone tried and if someone just got you something for the sake of filling a quota.)

And I love the food, the hot cocoa, the candied yams. Delicious!

But I don't like Christmas itself. I usually fight with my family on Christmas, and if you're not with family and if you're not with friends, you're all alone on Christmas and that's kind of sad. This year I'll be on my own, but I've planned activities for the day to keep me from despairing under the Christmas tree. I'll probably go to the movies.

And also... I hate Christmas music.

I've loved It's A Wonderful Life since I was a kid, and I swear, every year it gets a little better. The more I understand about the world the more I love that movie. And Potter is just the perfect villain, you want to believe he can't be realistic, but in your heart you know he is.

Annnnnd WHERE DID YOU FIND A SONIC SCREWDRIVER WIIMOTE?!!!!!!
