I've been downloading and opening .doc and .docx from LitReactor's workshop for over a year on my Microsoft Word Starter. I just renewed my LitReactor submission and now when I download the documents it won't let me get past not being able to open it in Microsoft Word. I really don't have the money to purchase it now and the Starter has been working fine up to this point. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, did you find a solution?

I figured out how to save them and then open them in Microsoft Word Starter but it's quite the pain-in-the-ass. It used to just open up then right away and I don't know what's changed

OpenOffice. Since getting a new computer I only use MS Word Starter for checking formatting issues with file conversions. Plus Starter doesn't have a lot of the editing options, pretty much impossible to workshop with it.

What do I need? That's all I've ever used since I got this machine two years ago.

Somehow my default setting got changed and I just figured out how to change it back, so it will work for now, until I can afford something better. So far it seems to do what I've needed.

Bunch of features not fully available. If it works good with how you currently operate Word then stick with your method, I just grabbed OpenOffice because it was free and had versions of the featurs I use regularly when editing my own stuff.
