(Hmm my laptop kind of sucks so something went wrong but here we go.)

So I'm new here and Swedish, which essentially means two things:

  1. I'm constantly nervous and melancholic (all swedes are, most deny it).
  2. My father was eaten by a polar bear. (Kind of. Not really.)

I'm Fluff, and I'm a 23 year old unemployed male from Sweden. A year ago I realized that I really like to read and write in English. Problem though, my writing sucks. Really bad. So my goal here at LR is to become a better writer.

Right umm, also since I don't have any writing friends, I thought that it might be fun to try to make some friends here.

(God this introduction is so lame and embarrassing.)

So, hmmm, nice to meet you....... :D

Hi Fluff! Nice to meet you. We are kind of similar, maybe. I am from Romania but I live in the States now. I also write in english and even though I am fluent I still feel like I run into trouble sometimes with my writing. I agree that it can be difficult to write in a language that you are not native to.

What do you write about? :)

@Natasha Ghica; Yay, someone I can relate to! :P Well I write mostly short stories about a plethora of subjects. But most of them are in the genres of realism and magic realism, somtimes with strokes of satire.
I also like to write about animals and nature (I have a bachelor's degree in environmental studies).

Any advice to a fellow non-native, how to write better in english?

@Fluff  That's really funny actually...I also am studying environmental studies :) I have one more year and I will have my bachelor's! It's always nice to meet another person in the field.

Well, I honestly don't have very good advice. Just keep practicing and reading books in English! Reading always helps me improve my writing and it teaches me new ways of expressing certain ideas that I might not know how to approach. Also, I find it helpful to workshop your stories with other writers and see what they say. Other people might catch your spelling/grammar mistakes and help you learn from it. Hope that helps... haha. It's not easy writing in a new language but I've gotten better over time and practice so I'm sure you will too!

@Natasha Ghica Yay a fellow tree-hugger!!! Are you specializing in any field of environmental studies? (Like water management, sustainable urban planning etc.)

Well I already read pretty fanatically, so I think that I have that covered already :P
Workshop my stories...Oh God, I'm a meek Swede, I don't have the guts to that yet. But yeah, I guess I eventually will do it.

Nice to meet you btw :) (It's kinda strange that one of the first I talk to studies the same thing that I studied :P)

@Fluff I am focusing on policy and management. It's pretty broad but I am learning about all environmental policy. I'm most interested in conservation and climate change right now though. I feel like those are two issues that are so prevalent right now. I've heard that Sweden is a very sustainable country. Is that true? The United States is not so much. We have so much work to do here!

Don't be scared to share your stories with others! It's one of the best ways to improve your writing I think :) It feels very liberating!

@Natasha Ghica, well Sweden is sort of sustainable. Depends on what you compare with. I mean most countries environmental policies are so bad that compared to whose countries, Sweden is sustainable and their policies kick some serious butt. Otherwise though, I think Sweden has so much so improve on before it can be called a truly sustainable country.
