From Solarcide

COMING IN 2013

Presenting–the newest anthology project from Solarcide. A bona-fide flash fiction adventure of the most sinful and decadent design.

Featuring one of our closest allies as co-editor, the man who first created the Flash Me! monthly competition at the LitReactor Forums, the very minister of exposing oneself in word form; Mr Chester Pane™.

Flash Me! began life as monthly public polls to decide the most deadly flashery amongst the entrants. For more than a year it was THE place to open your literary raincoat and show the world what you had. Now it rears its head again, this time in a new form. This anthology is to be a collision of decadence and shorter word-count fiction.

This project is open to public submission. Over the coming weeks we will be seeking to gather flashes from many different authors, and we will be compiling the best into what we have deemed The Sinthology. Once complete the collection will be released as our very first print publication. Needless to say, we are rather excited about this prospect.

The theme is sin. The execution is sin. Flash Me! IS sin.

We’d love it if you take part.

Show us what you got!

If you are interested in submitting to this project, then you should head over to the Submissions Guidelines page (copied into the next post here) for all the grizzly details. I have created this thread here at Litreactor for discussion on Flash Me! and The Sinthology. The Flash Me! gig was born entirely of Chester's passion and the LitReactor community, and it will never truly move out of its first home.

Below are the specific submission guidelines for this project. I will remove them once we close to submissions.

The theme for the collection is sin.

We will be accepting submissions for consideration until 31st of March..

Successful contributors will receive a free PDF version of The Sinthology, but due to its flash fiction nature and the rather high number of contributors we are expecting for this particular project, we regret that we cannot offer any further payment. We will, of course, fully credit all authors within the book and on this website and promote their involvement.

Go on. What are you waiting for?

Show us your worst.

Submissions should be sent to solarcidecontact@gmail.com. Please title your submission email in the following manner

Flash Me! Submission – Story Title (word count) – Author Name.

We will only be accepting new work for this anthology. Previously published material is not what we are looking for. Note–online work-shopping does not usually count as publication in our opinion. Providing the workshop is subscription based and not open to the public, then work that has been displayed in such an environment is eligible.

Work should be submitted as a .doc attachment to the submission email. Stories in other file-types or contained in the body of an email will not be read.

All manuscripts should be formatted* in Times New Roman, font size 12. They should be double line-spaced, and passage endings should be marked by a single hash mark (#).

*note – if unusual formatting plays a vital part in your story (such as multiple fonts, unusual spacing, anything else weird and wonderful) then feel free to deviate from the guidelines here, but please inform us in your submission email.

Word count is 1000 words or less, though it should be noted that we are not only looking for stories that push that limit. Rather we want a mixture of flash and micro-fiction and we’d like to also include pieces at the 250 and 500 word mark. Less, even, if the work is good enough.

And that’s it.

Flash us.

Make us blush.

Sin, sin, sin!

Preserved for all time the original Flash Me! thread. Anyone is always welcome to post stuff there, though it has to be said, there are lots of great Flash projects going on here of late.

Also, Chester's Flash resource thread is worth a look.

I'm reading an instructional book on how to write flash fiction with a study group here on LitReactor. Hopefully one of the writing exercises can help me produce something great enough to send your way. As soon as I have some new/good material I will definitely do that.

Edit

I totally misread that to say the end of Friday not the end of February, which means I have more time than I though. I aim to finish tonight, anyway. And then probably look over it on Friday and send it your way. Thanks,

Flashers!

There's a little update on the status of the antho here.

http://solarcide.com/2013/02/19/flashy-updates-vault-deposits/

Long story short - deadline is extended until the end of March.

Hopefully I will soon be ready to start getting back to those who submitted already, let you know if we're shortlisting your stuff or nay. With the deadline extended, there'll be plenty of time if you want another swing. I hope to get those responses out within a week or so.

I am happy to see multiple subs by the way. Couple of people asked about that.

Keep rocking on, you grand and flashy folk. Keep rocking the fuck on.

Okay, I have a question...Is the picture in the initial post really the cover? Or is that just a picture, much like the "expose yourself to art" photo, just there as an attention grabber? I've been meaning to ask for a while, but, well, I guess I just didn't.

Bekanator's picture

I totally saw the actual photo the other night. Tits and all. Just browsin' Tumblr. It was there.

wickedvoodoo's picture
wickedvoodoo from Mansfield, England is reading stuff. February 25, 2013 - 2:45pm

As Bekka hints the image up there might not be appropriate to actually go to print with. Shh. Don't get me sued.

That is just one mock up of potential cover art drafts, raw materials were sourced... from "out there" and thought I'd probably get away with using it for promo in the meantime.

The final cover is not decided.

p.s. - send me some more subs folk!

Sourcing images for this kind of project is always iffy. For all the "preview" images I do for the stories on my site, I usually use a site called sxc.hu, which is a free stock photo site. Over the years their selection has dropped a bit, because of course most people want to get paid for their work, but for the most part it works. Most photos are fine for general use, but photographers tend to want a heads up if you're using it for a project you're hoping to profit on.

As for more "adult-themed" stock photos, I wouldn't exactly know where to start...

I am open to all kinds of suggestion ;-)

Right now I have a few maybe's swirling round my head, but no definites. If you want to send something over to solarcidecontact@gmail.com, by the same date as the subs I guess, then I will be very happy indeed to take a look.

What size should the cover image be? I thought I read somewhere that it was going to be a print book, but I don't remember...

wickedvoodoo's picture
wickedvoodoo from Mansfield, England is reading stuff. February 27, 2013 - 8:02pm

Yeah - I want a printed gig this time around.

The book will be printed 8"x5" on each page. For cover image size - bigger is better really, but as long as it fits to the ratio then it should be okay.

As long as you clearly explain in your email which name you want to be used - I see no reason why not.
