Hey, I have never joined a site as this. I'm anxious to get started but am clueless on where  to start. As I'm sure others have done, I have written small bits of nothing.  Possibly, I have enough to start something. If anyone has advice on what direction I should take so I am not at a stand still for the entirity. Then of course I would just simply quit. So please help if you can...

Welcome! I would just start writing, anything, then post in workshop. See where you need to improve, read some essays, or take a class, write some more and repeat the process OR you could start with a writers battle (look up Beyond Thunderdome) and start the process there.....

The point is don't wait for something special or a special time. The time is now, the special thing is whatever you put down on paper.

lizzby!  welcome.

What Matt said, yes.  Do that stuff.  The tough thing about internet communities, especially ones that are growing as fast as this one, is that it's easy to get lost in the shuffle.  So a good bet for you, as far as getting involved and seeing what direction to take your work and your involvement, is to cruise the threads a bit and kinda see what's going on.

There is a lot going on.  In addition to the Beyond Thunderdome writer battles, there is Flash Me!, a thread dedicated to letting you show off your shortish work, The Rough House Duo Competition, and just the plain ol' Rough House, where you can get your weekly prompt and write a piece of flash to show off.

And that's just the stuff that's good for you.  You want to kill some time and have some fun in the community?  There's plenty of that.  Just take a look around.

Have fun.  A man named Dave should be along shortly to welcome you officially.  Until then, I extend his hand in greeting.

I like the welcome committee here.  This is certainly better than asking someone if they'd like some lobster.

Lizzbby, enjoy yourself.

But never let it be thought unimportant.  Would you like some lobster?

@Panda:  Any time.

Me too Danny. It not being one was more surprising than the sex stories I have read on here actually.

Welcome newcomer, may you impregnate our fertile minds with your seeds of literature!
