Some books I'm thinking of off hand: The Rabbit Who Saw Tomorrow, Jester Lost His Jingle. And there was one that was about a Jewish family in a Nazi concentration camp. Actually one was about a French Resistant group, and a ghost of girl killed in the war if I remember correctly.

And I thought I read weird stuff in Accelerated Reader. Like this one where this Mermaid was talking the king out of having either her and her Jester friend decapitated. Fairy tale I believe. And of course, Blood And Chocolate. Disturbing stuff there.

I had like totally the wrong impression of fiction for young people, because those categories were always something I avoided. I chalk it to seeing to many Hey Arnold and Cat And Dog books. I think that was why I started switching to like reading Seinin manga.

Scary Tales To Tell in the dark was a favorite.
