Since the new book, Wind through the Keyhole is coming out in April that goes back in time to better days when Roland, Susannah, Jake, Oy, Eddie were all ka-tet. I figured now would be a good time to start a fan thread plus with the discussion of a possible HBO mini-series. Who do you think would be good in the roles? What does the Dark Tower mean to you? Do you think it is King's magnum opus? Also include any good stuff you find here. I found some kickass fan art online.
Not Kevin Costner! Good Lord.
Who would you cast as Eddie - this is more important.
In that first picture, why does Eddie look like he's about to be really creepy?
Totally, 100%, Guy Pierce as Roland. I see your eyebrows raised. Seriously. Check out a movie called, The Proposition, written by Nick Cave. I watched about 15 minutes of that and finally had the question settled in my mind. After about 15 minutes I mostly wanted to vomit. There's something about watching a man stomp another man's head flat that's a bit over the top for me. Back on topic, though: Guy Pierce.
Sorry. Guy Pearce.
Angela Bassett = Savannah
I'm thinking...now hear me out...for Eddie I'd like to see James Marsden. Because he can be funny. And Eddie was funny first, drug addict second.
See? I wonder if he'd be willing to chop off a couple fingers for the role.
This thread needs more Viggo Mortensen!!!
Another viable. But I still stick with Guy. Viggo seems too sorrowful. Guy Pearce always manages to portray a character who will make time to feel sorry later, but right now he's got shit to do.
And that initial choice by HBO to cast Javier Bardem was way off base. Bardem = fuckin awesome. But also, Bardem's head = way to big to be Roland's head.
Too bad Haley Joel Osment got too big and ugly. "I make dead people."
I'm pretty sure it will be Javier Bardem. I don't like it, but it is what it is.
Who plays Stephen King?
Considering at one point Jake remembers his own death, he needs to be sort of hardcore. 'Bama
Fuck Haley Joel Osmond, he was terrible in Sixth Sense even looking back, his stupid pumpkin face.
Shut your face. Haley Joel Osmond was great in that movie. *winks in delight*
I'm pretty sure it will be Javier Bardem. I don't like it, but it is what it is.
What is there not to like? Javier Bardem is a saint.
And St. Bardem is not Roland. Head's too big.
He's a fine actor, I just don't see him in this.
You two are just being racists.
Well, I wasn't going to say it, but I think Morgan Freeman should really play Roland.
Don't try to buy your way out of this one by playing the Morgan Freeman card...
I want an Oy sooo bad.
Oy did not go out like a chump.
All Dark Tower fans, whether they liked the ending or not, love Oy.
Oy rocks.
He was the best person in the whole thing. We should all try to be more like Oy.
Yesh the new Dark Tower installment coming out should be interesting. I still need to read the last 2 books but so far the third book was my favorite.
I haven't read any of the Dark Tower. So I don't belong here. But I do agree that Guy Pearce is amazing. In everything. Loved the Proposition.
I freakin LOVE that this forum is here! I have to admit that the Dark Tower series is pretty much (and dont shout) my favourite series - ever. (it is close to getting toppled by A Song Of Ice & Fire) I do however hope that it never makes it to the screen; I don't want to have to refer to it the way that I do about the harry potter movies "Oh the movies are kind of their own thing cause they had to cut the books down". it's far far to big to actually make it to the screen (in my opinion.) If it does make it out though I know that I will probably be the first one in the cinema to see it :P
I think that everyone should read it and I am so freaking excited about the new book!!
I'm sorta a fan.
@Sean: Fucking awesome. If I had ever thought of that, I might have a tattoo now. But I didn't. And now you have it, so it won't really be all that original if I do it, so I won't. But if you ever lose that arm in a terrible farming accident, shoot me an email.
No shit, I get weepy trying to think of who could play Eddie Dean. NO ONE. No one can be the Eddie in my head, the addict, the romantic, the hero, the jokester. It just gets me all...blaaah. As for Roland, it bums me out that it can't be Clint Eastwood, it should be, but it won't be.
And I do have plans for a half sleeve inspired by the feild of roses, featuring THE Rose in it somewhere...working out some details because something unrelated is going into it as well.
I love me some Ka-Tet.
Oh, and Stephen King will play Stephen King, duh. He's no stranger to cameos in his own films.
@Renee - Clint Eastwood already played Roland in a movie everybody likes to call The Outlaw Josey Wales.
"Oh, and Stephen King will play Stephen King, duh."
I was wondering when someone would say this. You guys are a little slow. No offense. XOXOXO
None taken, smelly-foot racist.
You forgot the "xo" part, man who snores.
Well, I don't hug or kiss any of you. At least not with my wife reading this post over my shoulder.
Good call.
Also, I am hence forth going to consider 'smelly-foot racist' a term of endearment. Because I have very low self esteem.
You should get Mr. Avery to call you that. And maybe your son. That'd be a good one for his first grade class. "My mom is a smelly-foot racist."
My son would call me that in a heart beat. He's at that age. You know, the one where he finds insulting me really funny.
Mr. Avery (which is what i will call him from now until forever) does not believe in pet names. But he might be convinced on that one.
