I don't know about you all, but I get tired of bland color descriptions in my writing--like brown hair, red lipstick, a blue dress, etc. Attached are a few color charts that give many other variations of colors, to help with your descriptions.

I've also noticed a lot of references to "conflower blue" and "plum" in some recent stories (a la Chuck P). These charts could also help with breaking out of the formulaic and making your own "mark."

Also, the below link is a page on colors and symbolism, for those interested.

I think if colors are used effectively, it can add an extra texture to your writing.

I agree. When I want "new" names for colors I usually look up cars and motorcycles paints, they tend to be quite inventive, if not always appropriate, or even logical.

Thanks for the post and the tools. I love color. I seem to want to describe colors before smells and tastes for some reason.

Thanks - printed it out to test my new color printer and I'm sure some of these names/color descriptions will come in handy.
