Yeah, Jessica, his dog stuff can get really annoying but I like him because he reminds me of my Mom honestly.  She loved his books so it's a way I still feel close to her.  Since she's dead if you must know, Popeye before you make fun of me.

Haha,  Popeye you always make fun of people.  Or you are being a smartass I can't tell, I don't speak internet.  Anyway, I was just saying, there are personal reasons. Also, a ghost just highjacked my computer.

No, I'm serious about the dog book.  I liked it a lot, he liked Mickey Mouse?

Hang on I'll Google....

Watchers.

(p.s. I literally typed "Dean Koontz smart dog" and got the answer.  Google is going to rule us all one day.)

You need to put more emoticons if you are joking or at least go "LOL" or JK.  Or maybe write, *winks in delight*.  *Just kidding*  lol

Yeah, Watchers is good. Dean Koontz is pretty hit or miss.  It's because he releases like 2-3 books a year.

Avery, I told you this about 3 weeks ago when we all had the prequel to this Dean Koontz conversation!

Dean Koontz, btw, was awesome when I was like 16.  Fast plots, etc., but also graphic sex.  And what 16 year old boy doesn't need some graphic sex in his stories?

What Dean Koontz books are you reading?  He doesn't have a lot of sex.  His characters are usually A) an emotionally abused woman with a dark childhood B) a lonely guy who has given up on love C) a sociopath who is searching for his next victim and has little quirks like compulsive handwashing D) a lovable dog who is smarter than all the humans and can talk to aliens or something.

Yes, Popeye.  Good job.  **pulls off skin and dances around**

@danny - Man, all his books have A and B.  And by the end of the book those two are constantly sport-fucking while D watches.  Reference Watchers.  Reference that one where the bad guy is a pair of warped body-building twins who think they are a single person but one dies and the other searches for revenge--while A and B sport-fuck in front of the dog.  There was that disappointing Strangers.  No sex that I can remember in that one.

Okay, you figured out the formula!  So I propose A+B=G.  Guy looking for love finds emotionally abused women, decides to kill her and falls in love with the serial killer while the dog watches they fuck.  Is that better?

Jesus, I just realized we are smearing this conversation all over the canon discussion.  For some reason I thought we were all defiling Laurance's internet romance thread.  My bad.

I'd really like to read Sartre.

New new formula: Emotionally abused man finds cat.  Cat proceeds to sport-fuck every other cat he can find (as cats often do) and creates an army of stray kittens.  Bob Barker is outraged.  Man finds emotionally abusive woman with a heart of gold and together, they say "fuck the world" and sport-fuck like kitties.

Or a serial killing dog with a man as a pet finds a woman with flippers for hands and they plot to take over the Earth channelling dead celebrities and the JFK conspiracy is uncovered and they find a secret bible to the lost city of Atlantis and the book is secretely a movie posing as a book posing as a movie that is a record album.

@Razor - That's a lot better way to describe my thoughts than anything I've said in this thread....How is that book anyway?  I've been wanting to read it.  Watched the movie, but it bored me to tears.  I really love Murakami though.

I'm enjoying it so far, I'm about a third of the way through it. I can't imagine it working as a movie, though. The narrator is far too introverted and the most interesting parts can't be captured by film. Maybe I just haven't gotten far enough into it, but to me it seems like what makes it interesting is the narrator's internal monologuing about the events rather than the events themselves. His interpretation of the events can't really be captured in a movie unless it's a two hour voice-over. When I finish the book I'll probably watch the movie anyway.

Actually, the part where the man tells Scout to stand up because her daddy is coming through - I get chills reading that every time.  I think that Atticus Finch should be everyone's dad.

Popeye, oh.

And by the way, Popeye in Sanctuary (Faulkner) is an impotent guy who kills people and he kidnaps the daugher of the mayor and rapes her with a corn cob, then forces her into prostitution so he can watch her screw other guys. Then she becomes a nun and dies, in Requiem for a Nun. Anyone afraid to read Faulkner should know he had some really fucked up characters.
