Have a specific tense pattern compared to non-literary fiction? By this I mean, when you read literary novels, have you noticed more of a frequency for third person over first person. Any second person?
I'm asking as I'm revising the first chapter, again.
Since I tend to read a lot of minimalist literary fiction short stories, I think there are more stories written in 3rd party limited with past tense. I personally bounce back and forth about equally between 1st person (very close psychic distance) and 3rd person limited. It truly depends on what I'm trying to accomplish with a particular story. If in doubt, try it multiple ways. I've only written one story in 2nd person and only then because the story required it.
Well that's fun, then, isn't it? It also suggests that as you've gained writing experience, your style has evolved, presumably for the better.
