Hi all!

Another newbie here - newbie in this community and newbie in writing.

I have this "novel" inside me (as almost everyone does) and I want nothing more but to bring it out. Story by story, piece by piece. But I am also full of excuses. Some really lame ("am I too old to start creative writing?"), others maybe less so ("oh, but English is not my first language!"). In the end what matters is doing the work, right?

I did a tour of the website and it seems like a great place to be. I hope to learn loads from all fo you and maybe participate in workshops and online classes. Although, I am not really sure if they are meant to be for true beginners?

WIshing a lovely Sunday evening to everyone!

We prefer to call people amateurs. And yes, the workshops are for everyone. I would highly, HIGHLY--cough cough wink wink, recommend the craft essays by Chuck.

This website is a good place to get some thick skin and starting trying to understand how stories are actually crafted. You do enough of it, you start seeing patterns that you might otherwise miss.

Good luck

Welcome to the pit.

Welcome!

As an amateur workhopping my first novel draft on here, I can tell you it has been a tremendous help. Most critiquers (dunno if that's a word) tend to be thorough, honest, and tough in the very best way. If you are looking for solid feeback I can't reccommend this place enough. You might only get a few reviews, but they will be infinitly more helpful than most of the so-called critiques I have seen on other sites.

And those craft essays are definitely where it's at.

Howdy.  Welcome.  Jump on in, the water is no more painful than years of self incrimination over never getting started.  Maybe even slightly less, on average.  Results will vary.

Thank you all for the welcoming replies :)

Allright then. I'll jump in.  And give it a go.
