Hello,

I come from the bottom of Australia in a town where the best thing is the train to Melbourne and, like many on here can surely say, have been writing stories from almost since I could read and write (and pretending to before that, I still have some little books from when I was 3 years old filled with symbols and pretend-writing). There's this feeling in my gut that says what 3 year old me was writing wasn't at all like what I am now.

For the past year I've been on a quest to devour as much of writers like Don DeLillo, Philip Roth, Thomas Pynchon, Chuck Palahniuk, Saul Bellow and Cormac McCarthy as I possibly can in order to develop my own style.

My core interests are writing and film with film being a rather large obsession of mine. As for what I write about; I tend to write about forms of corruption, so what was once normal or appears to be normal but there is something twisted and out of order. Not to claim that any of it is any good yet, but my stories are "strange". I'm sure on here they'll be perfectly acceptable and fairly tame.

I've been obsessed with LitReactor for a few months now, reading a whole bunch of articles (particular favourites being the Thomas Pynchon and Philip Roth Primers as well as Jon Gingerich's columns) and eventually I thought I should join up. So I have, and now I'm here.

Welcome, Tom!  Davery should be along any moment to officiallly welcome you.  Until then, allow me to extend their hand in friendship.

Also, if anyone here asks you if your rug matches your drapes, try not to engage them in conversation because eventually they'll ask for photos.  They get pretty aggressive about it.

Here is something strange about this. One of my Delaware Indian ancestors was named Pretty Hair. So the story goes. LINK

I wouldn't know where to start as far as identifying it goes. Post-Modernism has had the most impact it would seem.

Thanks for the warm (and odd) welcome everyone!
