Hello, my name’s Jack. I’m new to the website, but I’m having a bit of trouble navigating. I have posted and written a few reviews, so I have a handle on that aspect. I do have questions, if anyone would be willing to answer them for me.

Is there a genre section? All I’ve been able to find is the general workshop area.

Is poetry frowned upon here? I write both prose and poetry, but I’ve found very little of the latter.

Is it okay to upload a revised copy of your work? I’ve seen a couple.

Is there a member-contest section or only the site advertised section?

The star rating on structure, is it referring to the manuscript structure (double-spaced, 12 point) or the narrative structure? I’ve been operating under the latter.

Is there away to bookmark pieces for later reading?

Is there a way to save your favorites, other than on your hard-drive? (For some reason, it seems wrong to me).

I appreciate any response I get to these questions. If no one does, I at least like to say, “Hello, I’m Jack, and I look forward to reading some of your work.

(I accidentally posted this in the help section—though it falls under that category as well—I couldn’t figure out how to change or delete. I’m sorry for the double posting).

As far as I know it depends on who you ask as far as poetry is concerned. I also write poetry, more so these days than I used to. So I'm also curious.

Though write poetry because you love it.

I leave the others to those with more knowledge in those areas.

Hi, Jack.

Is there a genre section? All I’ve been able to find is the general workshop area.

There isn't a separate section, but you can tag your submissions with the appropriate genre of your piece when you submit it.

Is poetry frowned upon here? I write both prose and poetry, but I’ve found very little of the latter.

It's not frowned upon, but there aren't a lot of poets here. If you submit poetry, you'll certainly get a few reviews, but probably not as many as for prose. And some of those will probably start off with "I'm not a poet, but here are my thoughts..."

Is it okay to upload a revised copy of your work? I’ve seen a couple.

Certainly. This is usually done as a new submission, and you name it as revised so that people that reviewed it initially can make comparisons, and new readers can look on your previous version to if they'd like.

Is there a member-contest section or only the site advertised section?

Any member contests have come up in the threads, and to what degree they utilize the workshop system is different for each one, but is explained in those threads. So, no there isn't a member-contest section of the workshop, though there has been the often toyed-with idea of a monthly "competition" within the workshop itself... but Nathan would probably be the best person to ask as to what its status is right now.

The star rating on structure, is it referring to the manuscript structure (double-spaced, 12 point) or the narrative structure? I’ve been operating under the latter.

Narrative structure.

Is there away to bookmark pieces for later reading?

Not really, but you could friend the authors that you liked, then their works show up on your workshop "My Desk".

Is there a way to save your favorites, other than on your hard-drive? (For some reason, it seems wrong to me).

Again, really the best way would be to friend the authors, which would give you at least a shorter list to go through.

Thank you, XyZy, for the information. It’s tremendously helpful.
