Hi all, I have recently created http://wordly.info and I would like to share it with the writer's community. The idea is simple - enter one or more words and get a list of related words/topics. It is good for brainstorming or finding words to refine your sentences.
I am not a writer myself, so I would love to hear your feedback on it!
Hmm, looks like a thesaurus only not as strict. Could be useful in those moments you're like, shit, what's the word I'm looking for...
I just used it for something. It didn't quite work this time. But neither did thesuarus, like, at all. So I went back to it, and took some words lower down in the list and put those into regular thesaurus... and eventually found something.
Woo hoo!
Hmm, if I could click on each word and it took me to thesuaus.com for said word, I'd use that feature.
Ha! Wow, that was fast...
Interesting, I put in 'intense shudder' it didn't exactly give me the word I was looking for but there were quite a few good options. I also like the thesaurus feature. I've got it bookmarked and will try again next time. It's an awesome idea thank you for sharing!
I just used your site again.
Wanted to replace the word "unison" so I put it in. Ehhhh, nothing. So I tried "conjunction" because that seemed close enough. Not far down the list was "coordination." Aha! Perfect.
Didn't even use the thesaurus link this time. Made the change.
I'm liking this...
Sorry, no words match your query, please try with a different one.
That might be good to add as an explanation.
Can you add more words? If we tried something and didn't come up with results and let you know what words or word combo we used would that be helpful to you to build on what you already have?
I have no idea how these algorithm things work or how to create a website or build on one so it's an honest question on my part.
ohhh, word combos would be cool. sounds exponentially more difficult, but i could be wrong about that.
!!!
so, does this venn diagram it or just do both words or what?
@Phillip --- yeah, i entered words like "noumenal" and "alterity" and came up with nothing. if its dictionary's that limited, i'd refer all to The Synonym Finder by J.I. Rodale, a book that every writer should have on his desk.
@Philip --- i should probably point out that words like "noumenal" are technical words (Kantian philosophy, for example) and therefore it's not surprising that it doesn't work for those. but a lot of technical terms from various fields could use a generator such as this. good luck with it, mate.
I love name generators! I tend to use them when I'm writing fantasy works. It's a great addition I'll have to check it out.
I bookmarked it. I like it.
Nice work ye.
