Is there a way to vote I don't know?
What I will say is I write a hard science fiction variant of Magical Realism. Which is amusing, because magical realism used to mean what Hard Science Fiction. It didn't really invent anything new.
Accept maybe add more misogynistic testosterone to Magical Realism.
I think all genres were considered hacky at some point.
New Yorker editor David Remnick recently interviewed Lee Child for the Radio Hour and sounds like a fan:

So no, that's not fair to say.
Well, by some standards it is. Hell even by mine, you have such two-dimensional characters and bad description in the thriller genre, I can't get into it.
By other standards it's exactly what a reader wants. Plot driven action in which a guy (almost always) can escape into a fantastic adventure.
And, while there's some real crap out there, even speaking objectively with few axioms to start, Vince Flynne and Lee Child are at the top of their genre for a reason. Whatever they're doing, they're doing it well. The market would indicate as much, as born over time and what? Hundreds? of millions of publications?
