I've been a member of Guru for a while and look for some freelance writing jobs to see what the market is paying and what people are offering. You know, research for my new career. Sometimes someone offers up something that I think the group maybe interested in. For those savy and really need to make some dough. I haven't done it yet, because I'm a giant chicken and don't think I'm up to snuff yet. That doesn't mean that I can't share these things with you guys so you may be able to take advantage of the offers.
If anyone else knows of jobs that are out there by all means post them in here so that we can try helping each other out. Let's start Networking.

Wow.
This might be right up my alley. I will try.
Cool site, i just registered, thanks for posting JD.
Cool. I could write erotica again for the bling bling yo.
Is all they're looking for cross-genre? Or can it just be sci-fi....writing erotica isn't really my thing.
Yeah dude, I wouldn't mind freelancing some.....got to build up my resume and portfolio. You're the man sir!
You're such a rebel.
I just joined and the first notification I got was for a website my friend runs. He told us he wasn't going to pay writers until things got going, but it offers money in the guru ad. Hmmmm. It's not something I would be writing about anyway, but now I am really glad I didn't spread the word about his website and send people to him to get fucked on pay.
Hmm...
You still gonna keep calling him your friend?
This is a great idea. It'd be nice to make some money at this writing thing.
The only thing I don't like is you have to send a proposal to the client. Is that like writing samples or what? There is no guarantee they will choose you. Some lady wants someone to help her write about her husband's suicide, I applied for that one.
Utah--yeah. He didn't offer me the job, it's so far outside of my lifestyle that it wouldn't even be possible for me to write about (Electronic Dance Music). I just saw that he was doing a call for writers on his facebook and saying the payment would be access to these events until he made enough money to pay people. The ad was for an EDM blog that paid relatively well, and just happened to have the exact same description. So, I'll chalk that up to him not wanting to pay his hangerson to write, but being willing to pay professionals. And I won't take any non-paid work from him ;)
Okay so I made an account. Thanks for posting this by the way.
So I'm going to invest in the fiction writing skills test (US version) and I was wondering if anybody has taken this yet or knows what to expect from it, such as what kind of questions it's going to ask?
I wonder if this falls under contract writing and means you don't hold the copyright. I'll write a short story about space vampires fucking, but I want the fucking copyright to Space Sucking Face Fucking!
Made an account. Keeping my ear to the ground.
Sorry don't have any jobs yet to advertise, but what has been working for me is that I go around telling people I'm a copywriter looking for freelance work. I didn't get any clients for a long while, but eventually word got around and the work piled in.
Guru posts one-off freelance jobs, which is cool. But if you're looking for a career as a writer (in the corporate world, to pay the bills), let me suggest looking into becoming a Content Strategist; the newfangled term for a web writer.
I presently work full time as a content strategist for a bank dot com site and quite often I get calls from recruiters telling me there are not enough writers out there with web writing experience. There are open jobs and not enough writers to fill them. (Most corporate writers end up going into advertising because it's cooler).
I only mention this because I don't think too many writers know there is a solid career out there for web writers for corporate web entities. They call us content strategists, interactive content editors, web writers or whatever. but it really is just writing short copy for the web. And it pays well (assuming you have a college degree and some experience.) I used to work in advertising. This pays much better (and is less stressful).
Learn something new every day... Maybe this Web Design degree will benefit my writing after all. Thanks, Joseph & Clutch!
How the fuck do I miss these things?
I think nobody's been pimping this thread for a month or so.
I would be quite interested in the Yoga for Beginners writing if my budget could handle $75. I am so poor right now. I will keep checking on your posts however. Thank you for the information and for being my friend.
