In the last week, I've spent an embarrassing amount of money on an embarrassing amount of JLA and Batman graphic novels...
The Familier seems like such a huge investment. It's going to be 20-something volumes. But I'll probably end up picking it up eventually because I am such a big MZD fan.
Brandon
from KCMO is reading Made to BreakJune 8, 2015 - 6:24am
I saw you reading Batman Incorporated which prompted me to get it.
Pete
from Detroit is reading Red DragonJune 8, 2015 - 7:42am
Let me know what you think. I love Grant Morrison's writing. He's probably my favorite comic author at this point. He's the reason I picked up those JLA books as well. But lately I've been trying to read all of the Batman books - Batman, Detective Comics, Dark Knight, Batman and Robin, and Incorporated.
Aren't you more into Marvel?
Brandon
from KCMO is reading Made to BreakJune 8, 2015 - 8:03am
Yeah, I'm more into Marvel but I'm not a loyalist by any means.
I tried my damnedest to get into the New 52 line and it didn't take.
Pete
from Detroit is reading Red DragonJune 8, 2015 - 8:10am
What titles did you try to read?
Did you read any of Scott Snyder's stuff? He's writing Batman. Black Mirror was really good. Gates of Gotham was okay. And then he started off The New 52 with The Court of Owls stuff which was pretty good as well.
Brandon
from KCMO is reading Made to BreakJune 8, 2015 - 8:13am
I did Batman, JLA, and Superman. My interest just sorta tapered off.
Keeping up with comic books is difficult for me to do nowadays. I prefer to binge on them like Netflix.
Pete

Yeah, sometimes I'm the same way. I think that's what I'm going through right now. I'll end up reading a ton until I'm just about caught up and then I'll forget about comics/graphic novels for a while.

"Fight Club 2" the graphic novel. Just finished it last night. Honestly, I was disappointed. I like "Haunted" and "Diary" better.
Also bought "The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things" and am finding it interesting, especially given the recent documentary and all the controversy.

But from the library, I have these coming, been on hold a while:
Insomniac City: New York, Oliver, and Me--by Bill Hayes, partner of Oliver Sacks.
The Dead Father, by Donald Barthelme.
The Meursault Investigation, by Kamel Daoud.
The House of the Dead: Siberian Exile Under the Tsars, by Daniel Beer.
That last one is a lie, I don't have that one on hold. I have it marked on my library list but it's massively long.

About to purchase:
Wild Boys by William S. Burroughs: An underrated classic, although I'd have to agree with the webmaster's verdict on Naked Lunch.
Have purchased
Invisible Cities: Italo Calvino: A slender classic piece of fabulism by this Italian modernist literary master!
Angela Carter: The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman: One of her best! An intricate confection about a surrealist at war with an unnamed South American republic.
Edward Lucie-Smith: Dark Pageant: An historical novel about the fifteenth century French military strategist and torturer, Gilles de Rais.
Susan Sontag: Against Interpretation: One of her classic pieces of criticism. Includes the pivotal "Notes on Camp"
Soren Kierkegaard: Fear and Trembling: While I'm not a Christian, this is one of the masterpieces of existentialist philosophy.
