So after consideration of the feedback we've received here, the LitReactor staff has made the decision to revert the workshop point system to the previous model.
I had pushed for the change in hopes of spawning more submissions, but based on what you all have said, it looks like the submissions were coming in faster than the reviews, which was resulting in less reviews per piece. That's nobody's fault; people who earned the points absolutely had a right to use them how they chose, and people reviewing absolutely had a right to review at their own pace.
So, in hopes of leveling things back out, the system will be reverted to the original point system, which is as follows:
Very helpful: 3 points
Helpful: 2 points
Not helpful: 0 points
This change will take place sometime this weekend. Everything being said, this is not necessarily the end of the workshop modifications that may take place in the future. We're still tossing around some ideas on how to make the experience better for everyone, so keep the suggestions coming.

I wanted to check back in with you on this. I haven't seen any complaints since the point system was reverted, so are we okay with the pace of the workshop now?
As I mentioned, the reversion of the point system isn't an indication that we won't be tweaking the workshop for improvements, but I always like getting continuous feedback.
I'm new - I don't understand the point system in that I'm not sure how to spend the points I earn - simply - how many points are required to post my writing and where can I find that informaton. Are there different kinds of posts or is all writing posted to workshops..
Ideally, the point system would be a two queue hybrid.
Queue #1 would be exactly as it is today.
Queue #2 would be the Long Story Queue, reserved for stories over 5,000 words.
The Queue 2 reviewer would earn one point per thousand words reviewed. Review a 5,000 word story, earn 5 points. A 15,000 worder gets you 15 points and the ability to post a story of your own. This would encourage authors to post their longer work. As a side benefit, longer stories are often better stories (more character development, scene setting and nuance).
To get a long story reviewed under the current system the author must break the work apart, posting in small pieces. This is a burden on the author, as busting a 9,000 word story into 3 pieces costs the author 45 points.
