Hi, I'm hoping someone out there might know how to encrypt ePub and .mobi files so I can send them to reviewers who prefer eformat. For example, when these documents are converted into NookBook and Kindle formats, they are automatically encrypted in the process. How can I do that on my own or are there companies that offer this service?
I don't own a Nook so I can't speak to them, but I'm thinking that you can't do this in a manner that would work with the Kindle. The encryption portion of that encoding is usually proprietary, vendor specific, and really only serves to lock the file down so that a single authorized user (adjust user to meet your context) can read the file. Now, getting a file into a usable for a Kindle is a different story and rather simple to do.
Kindle's can read .mobi files directly. You're reviewer can either drop the file in the Documents folder on their kindle via usb or use Amazon's email service to transfer them. I've used both approaches and had them work quite well. Amazon also provides some resources ( Take a look at https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/help?topicId=A3IWA2TQYMZ5J6 ) which can be used to build your own .mobi files. The results are not encrypted, which means that they should work on any kindle that they were transfered to.

The word encrypt is confusing me. You just mean to save it in those formats, right? Not to make it all secret-y? I write in Scrivener, and it has export options for both Kindle and EPUB; piece of cake. There's a free plug-in called KindleGen that you have to download first, though.

I meant both, actually. However, you helped me come to the conclusion to not make them "secret-y" in my other post. You give good advice.
