Yeah. It started even younger than that I'm afraid. Was probably fourteen still when I first started with ecstasy. Seventeen was when I realised I needed to get away from a lot of that shit. There was a fork in my road and one way was not looking good. Like I say though, a change in surroundings was the key. I'm lucky enough that despite all the turbulence I was able to get the grades I needed to leave the sewer for a few years. A few good people and a totally new environment changed a lot of my values.
I'm not one of those people that stops using those drugs and then gets all preachy. At least I don't think I am. There's a reason why people get addicted to the 'druggie' lifestyle. It can be fun. It feels like something bigger than it is when you are on the inside. In a weird way it brings you closer to the folks around you. I still smoke pot and drink for what probably amounts to the same reasons.
But I think about how young I was - I mean, I had pills before I had been drunk or gotten laid. That is bad shit. I do think I missed out on a few things during those years that I'll never have chance to experience now.
Hence - loss of innocence. It is a shame in a way I suppose.

But I am feeling a need for a change of topic. Everytime I stray in this thread I end up getting people down. Sorry folks. Something magical about this thread brings out miserable stuff in me it seems.
So A-levels, yeah, I picked Psychology, I.T., Maths, and Physics, but I dropped physics halfway through. Ended up studying Psych for my degree. Not a career move really, I'm not the career type. I picked it because I found it interesting. Nowadays I do kind of wish I'd kept up with English and English Lit, because writing has become a huge part of what I enjoy and I sometimes feel I'm behind in a lot of the basics. Catching up at my own pace though. Also, I believe that a 'classic' education in English isn't the only ingredient that is vital to being a good author. There are many factors.

We just had an earthquake in my corner of the world! You know those wave pools in water parks? It was a lot like that, with less sunburned sweaty folk and much drier.
I worry about my computer at home. I think I left a cup of water by it. In which case it won't be that much drier for my laptop.

Psych at A-level is a very interesting subject. You get less of the associated politics at that level. It's good for developing critical thinking.
If you are good at French then I'd say that is a good choice too. It's an admirable talent to be able to speak with any real fluency in more than one language.
You should be fine with your GCSEs buddy. Just judging on your posting here and your reviews I have seen in the workshop I'd say you have plenty more wits about you than a the vast majority of people your age in this country.*** Certainly I'd have been petrified of a workshop environment when I was that age. It's fucking great you are getting in on the game so early.

Our American friends did lay the framework for the internet, that one ain't a myth. It was a connection between computers in two separate military bases IIRC. In the late fifties or early sixties. It's pretty well documented.

Not really horror. The first 4 are the best because he rushed writing them after he got hit by that car. The Drawing Of Three is my favorite one. Basically we follow the travels of Roland and his gang. Odetta the wise, black woman who has an alter ego, Eddie the ex-junkie, Jake the student. They discover they're selves and their new purpose as they search for the Dark Tower that Roland is obsessed with. The Dark Tower controls all of the universe or something deeper than that. The characters didn't choose they're fate, the Dark Tower chose is for them, so they traveled to this new universe and run into villians and the antagonist Randall Flagg or the "man in black." or his many other identities....ok I'm terrible with synapses so I'll just say yeah, it's western/horror/fantasy. I haven't read the last two which I still need to do. The plot isn't really too strong and his characters evolve in the traditional Stephen King type of way but these aren't your usual King books. The Dark Tower series is his masterpiece and I don't really throw that phase around too much. You should check them out.

I really enjoyed the Dark Tower series. Most of my favorite Stephen Kings are the less traditionally 'horroresque' ones.
And I agree - no adaptation for film or TV. No way would it work. And please especially not with Abrams at the helm. I have never got on with that guy's work.

In my opinion - no. It's not a series that would suit being filmed at all. I'm properly picky about my films and TV series though. I don't get on well with very many of them.
