Unprintable: The LitReactor Podcast Episode 5 - Writing Resolutions

Every month, Unprintable will take an irreverent look at books, the publishing industry, reading, writing, and more; featuring the know-it-all geekery of LitReactor columnist Cath Murphy, Education Director Rob W. Hart, and Managing Editor Joshua Chaplinsky.

Episode 5 - Writing Resolutions

It's the first podcast of the new year, and already we're in trouble with our producer. We got off to a late start (sorry, guys), were unprepared (sorry, guys), and things got a bit catty (I forgive you, Cath), but we the hosts still feel we managed to put on an entertaining show (sorry, Dennis). Nevertheless, onward and upward! We resolve to try and out awesome ourselves next episode.

This week in reads: Josh bores us because he read too many books, Jeff Noon's cyber-punk comeback Channel Sk1n being the main one; Cath explores the "dead child" genre with Pigeon English by Stephen Kellman; and Rob reads yet another release by the publisher he works for: The White Trilogy by Ken Bruen, the third book of which bears the awesome title of The McDead.

Then we get down to the topical business of discussing our topic: New Year's resolutions. We talk about how they apply to writing, and how you might be better off setting objectives for yourself instead. We also might get sidetracked by talking about identical twins and transvestite gangsters. Maybe.

As always, if you enjoy the episode, please rate us on iTunes, and if you're feeling extra especially generous, write us a short review. The few we've gotten so far have been great. We'll see you for episode 6, for which the topic will maybe be SPOILERS! I don't want to spoil it.

Your Hosts

Cath Murphy writes for a bunch of literary and film websites (where “bunch” isn’t quite as many as it sounds), offering unwanted opinions on anything that appears in her crosshairs. She is a cohost of Unprintable: The Official Podcast of LitReactor.com, and along with the fabulous Eve Harvey she also podcasts very rude stuff on Sluttylemon.

Rob W. Hart is the website and social media administrator for MysteriousPress.com. His short stories have appeared in Dogmatika, Needle: A Magazine of Noir and Shotgun Honey, and he is the author of The Last Safe Place: A Zombie Novella. He lives in New York City. You can find him on the interwebz at www.robwhart.com.

Joshua Chaplinsky is the Managing Editor of LitReactor. He also writes for Twitch and has written for ChuckPalahniuk.net. He might still be a guitarist in the band SpeedSpeedSpeed and is the poison pen behind thejamminjabber, although he's not so sure he should admit it.

Dear Sirs,
I would like to lodge a formal complaint because despite paying for and benefiting from numerous LitReactor courses, I have yet to receive my autographed nude photo of Rob Hart. I'm sure this is merely an innocent oversight that will be remedied immediately, but I did want to bring it to your attention.

All the best,
Kimberoo

Dear Kim,

We sincerely apologize, but due to incredibly high demand, all signed nudes of Mr. Hart have been placed on back order. As soon as we get a new batch from the printer, we will let you know. Until then, we will be sending out complimentary wallet-size pictures of Rob from grade school.

Thank you for your patience.
