Spread Your Love Of Books On April 23 During 'World Book Night'
Last year, when World Book Night was held for the first time in the United Kingdom, 1 million books were given out to light and non-readers. A good time was had by all.
It was such a success that this year the program is being extended to the United States. World Book Night will be held on April 23, with the admirable goal of getting people to read more. The organization is looking for 50,000 volunteers to give out 20 books each, and you have until midnight on Feb. 6 to register.
And the best part is that you don't even need to buy the books yourself! Here's how it works:
When you sign up, you choose three books from a list of 30 (with stuff like The Stand, The Hunger Games and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao up for grabs). If you're chosen to take part in the event, you'll be notified, and told which of the three books you'll be handing out. The copies of that book (so, say, 20 copies of The Stand) will then be delivered to the bookstore or library of your choosing ahead of World Book Night.
Then go spread some literary love, in places like coffee shops, hospitals, churches, community centers, shopping malls, local schools, or even on the train home.
