New MS Word Features Supposed To Help Writers

Microsoft has announced a host of new features for MS Word. Are they beneficial to writers?

First, Researcher. Researcher allows writers to do research and import citations without leaving the MS Word window. Which is kinda cool until you see that the research is Bing-based.

There are some definite advantages to being able to look something up in the middle of writing. And some disadvantages. On the one hand, it makes it easy to find out a needed bit of information. On the other hand, it makes it easy to be distracted by something that's not writing when you really should be writing.

More interesting for writers, the new Editor feature. Editor acts like a copy editor or proofreader, highlighting words that you are using too often, teaching you new words or phrases that will "improve" your style, and generally showing you how to read like an editor and improve your work.

Whenever Editor sees something that it's not happy about, it'll underline the word or phrase in gold.

I think this was inevitable. They steal every idea from small software developers.

I will admit MS Word is my go to program for first drafts. But I have already gotten used to using external software for the follow ups that it may be a little too late.

As for research, there are just too many software companies that are doing a far better job helping people cite their work. Noodletools and Zotero come to mind. MS Word doesn't even change titles to italics when creating a citation, it just underlines it. As an English major, I would just laugh and tell any student to do it all over again. It's also really clumsy when dealing with multiple authors. I'm not sure how it would handle an et al situation.

I can't believe they dropped Focus view. If Word weren't so embedded into my process, I would switch to another word processor. If anyone cares, maybe drop them a note here:

The Editor feature sounds helpful. I always fear I'm using the same word too often.

It is very effective way to get job by these advertisements if we are fully capable according to their requirement for the job. Teaching is a profession in which we should keep essaylab and reading skills in our hand so that we may also teach them in very good and effective way to others in simple and easy words also if it will be in English. Good job..!
