J.K. Rowling Announces 'Harry Potter' Encyclopedia For Charity

'Harry Potter' Encyclopedia for Charity

Via the Chicago Tribune

J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series of fantasy novels, has announced plans to release an encyclopedia related to all things Harry. The announcement came from Rowling’s official website, and contained only minimal details concerning the forthcoming reference volume.

Four years ago, Rowling was involved in a legal scrap with an independent American publisher who planned to release a similar book, saying it amounted to a “rip-off” of her copyrighted work.

The author added that her new venture would likely take time, but that once published, all of her royalties would be donated to charity. If the success of the Harry Potter series (400 million sold and counting) is any indication, the encyclopedia should generate a handsome payday for whatever causes Rowling chooses to embrace. She has not yet officially announced or solicited suggestions for selected charities.
