I know out of context this will sound dumb. One of my characters asked at a key moment in the story, when he already knew the answer: "Is it possible to live... without joy?" (and the answer was yes (of course)).

The white fluid tingled on her tongue numbing it and she felt it burn as it went down her throat.
The texture was almost like that of semen but sweet tasting.
