There is so much we can learn from Twilight, the deep meaningful themes, the complex ideas. the subtle ideals of religious freedom, feminism and even a subplot of slavery.

Twilight rivals even Faulker for dealing with the dire critical issues of our time.

Star Wars/ Lord of the Rings/ Harry Potter

All out the window.

Twilight is the real saga.

Hemingway?

Pft

Joyce?

Puhlease

Fitzgerald?

Who's that?

Stephanie Meyer, that's it.

I think Bella really is the ultimate female role model.  She is strong and independant and really sticks up for herself.  She harnesses the power of the male psyche to propel herself further in life because she understands that all true power lies within the male dominion. There are also subtle allusions to Joseph Smith the prophet and his godly visions.

Just the name Bella in spanish means beautiful.

What I like about Jacob is that he is truly the Alpha male and helped me understand explore  my sexuality as a man. I understood that the man is wolf and the wolf is man. No other book has ever explored this man/wolf link before this. I believe she invented this werewolf idea.

PandaMask's picture

I mean the whole werewolf versus vampire idea was never attempted. Not only that the boundaries were pushed when a love triangle was added.

I didn't know that Panda.  Did you know in the original Bram Stoker's "Dracula" that the vampires sparkled?  Then he decided that people weren't ready yet so Meyer took that idea and reinvented it for a new generation of readers.

There is the political element as well.

You have Edward who is a symbol of Capitalism.

Edward who is in complete control of Bella, who is just the average person. Also the fact that she has no powers is a symbol of how powerless we as a society are against capitalism.

Then you have Jacob who is a symbol of Communism. He is trying to force himself on Bella just as communism does. But the average person (Bella) is tempted by the idea, but doesn't want to fully commit.

I can see that now and the werewolf clan is a libertarian alliance that is trying to enter a society that is ruled by a two party system and cannot escape it. The larger goings on with the vampire community are reminiscent of the Catholic Illuminati who has operated in secret for 1000s of years which is where the seeds of Twilight really begin, going back to the original dead sea scrolls.

I think we need to return to the issue at hand, twilight.  How can we spread the word?  Not enough people know about this inspirational novel.  I say we start forming prayer groups and take it to the streets!

The only thing worse than this saga would be if she decides to make Peter Pan into a vampire and Captain hook into a zombie. That would be the end of all story telling as we know it.

But of course they would all have to sparkle.

I, for one, am grateful that you have brought this ground-breaking and insightful, literary gem to my attention. It is about time we had such a fresh new take on these enchanting beasts. This is clearly light years ahead of its time, and a benchmark against which future vampire/werewolf love triangles should be measured.

I'll pick on Twilight once I sell one-sixteenth as many books as Stephanie Meyer. Until then, I'll try to figure what she did so well that sucked in so many readers.

It's too easy to hate someone so successful.

If that last pic is a chick, she's kinda hot.

Can you tell I'm lonely at 330am?

There's this chick where I work, you know, has butter face.  One morning I thought, you know,

"She's kinda hot."

So I said,"What the fuck, over?"

"She's hot, kinda, nice body, face is meh," I replied.

I told myself, "Okay, maybe she's country hot."

I laughed and said, "Yeah dude, third world county hot."

So now I have to use that in a story, that I'm not telling myself.  At 330 am.

Once I read Twilight my whole life changed. I stopped reading anything else. I just read Twilight over and over and over again. And then I read it some more. I don't watch TV or see movies anymore, either, just the Twilight movies. All the time. On a constant loop. I named my daughter Bella and legally changed my name to Bella and I insist my husband answer to the name Edward. Because he is a good husband and understands the importance of fine literature, he abides.

It makes me so sad that so many people hate on these books, because, if they can't see the literary and soul changing value of these books--where ARE we as a society?
