I can't believe you did this.  Fine, lets settle it.

Guys, come on, it's a circle.  And if he hadn't given you that option, and just left it open ended, you ALL would say circle.  Because it is.  It's a circle.

Matt Attack's picture

Well, since it occupies three dimensions....yeah. Why are we doing this again? So a dounut shape, semi cricle with an empty radius.

Damn it!  It's a circle!

Okay, while ring might trick into thinking it is MORE correct, that doesn't mean circle is wrong.  Okay?

Round came to mind as I was opening the thread. Circle seems the best choice. Ring just sounds funny. I do insurance fraud investigations for a living, many cases auto related. I'll start making this a standard question in my interviews.

It is circular in shape....in a way (since it is a matter of perspective) both are right....maybe it's time to back off the forums, there was a time I wrote.....

It's circular in generic terms; it's a ring in that it has depth and is more or less symmetrical.

The way I see it, a tire is the same shape as Larry Niven's Ringworld; which is to say, it resembles a ring. A shape that resembles another shape . . . is that shape. I think.

Anyway, it can't be just a circle because a circle only has two dimensions.

It's merely circular. And stuff.

Couldn't you say the tire forms at least one circle even though the tire as a whole is not itself only one circle?

Like if you look at the side of a barn -- there is a square or a rectangle, even though the whole barn is not one single square or rectangle.

Circle is a social construct.  Only a ring is a ring.

Tires are round.  Except for mine.  Which is flat.
