@ Manda lynn: My main objective is to get votes, period. I would love for these stories to have as many people as possible participate in the voting process. So I'll see what I can do to have the potential readership as broad as feasible without losing us all our first publication rights.

^so you're saying i need to write either splatterpunk or erotica? i think even if i attempted a romance story it'd just end up being dark and twisted. sigh.

@Utah--haha thanks for the formal send off.
@Chester--I will do!
@Richard--Day one of the course, reading her lecture, and the intros from my "classmates" I already feel a hole in my heart where her book should be! I am definitely picking it up next I am near the bookstore (I live in BFE).
Everyone else--good luck, keep your head down, and always wear your body armor.

although, since it's blind, i guess i'd only get a list of numbers. man, this whole blind thing kind of takes some of the wind out of it, yeah? maybe we shouldn't do it that way. it'd be great to see who is up against who, and see an "underdog" work their way up the system. i don't know. not to set of a storm of response, but when i watch the NCAA basketball tourney you root for underdogs, you root against teams you hate, etc. i mean, here, we'd still vote for the best stories, right?

@Richard: Names will be in the brackets. You'll see who's on whom. What you will not see is their prompts. Those will be delivered by PM. And the stories won't have author names attached to them until voting is over. So we'll all get to see who's fighting whom in the brackets, but not in the polls. The polls will just be:
POLL:
Story 1
Story 2
Vote!
No ascriptions.
After the voting we see the names and advance the brackets.
And of course, if somebody says, "Hey, yeah, that one up there is mine" we'll have to play "Happy Trails" for them.
Chester Pane
from Portland, Oregon is reading The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot DiazMarch 5, 2012 - 10:32pm
@Utah: So I will need to know if Workshop membership will be a necessity or not.
@shiz-Nikki and manda-lini: When I find out how we are going to privatize the competition or whathaveyou, I will or will not look into setting up some temp memberships. But right now I am under the impression that locking a thread is tied to a regular account, not a workshop account. Is this correct?
Has anyone contacted Kirk? Kirk to Enterprise?
This is going to be fun. As for blindness? That will add an amusing air to the affair. I agree though, it won't always be completely blind, but who cares.

@chester - AWP was a blast. saw Nik Korpon, Caleb J. Ross, Eddy Rathke, Gordon Highland, Nic Young, Sean P. Ferguson, Misty Bennett from the Velvet/Cult/LR as well as authors like xTx, Mary Miller, Amber Sparks, Amelia Gray, Blake Butler, Kevin Sampsell, Roxanne Gay, Gina Frangello, etc. exhausted.

Brackets will be around this evening. Might be late, but they'll be up.
As to Workshop membership/non-membership: The contest is open to all. The question remains whether voting will be open to non-payers with locked polls. I PMmed Kirk about that earlier. I hope to hear back from him tomorrow some time so I can pass the good word.

@chester i'd come closer to smell your finger but i got the stank of christina hendicks all over my face and i'm just not willing to part with that odiferous gift yet. but ya can smell my mouth if ya want.

@richard still on topic. i'm sure it won't be too hard to guess who some of the pieces are written by :)
^so you're saying i need to write either splatterpunk or erotica? i think even if i attempted a romance story it'd just end up being dark and twisted. sigh.
I just plan on kiling everyone and everything...erotically, but make it heart-breaking.
I have decided I will write stories with a deep seashell metaphor. Those seem like the in thing lately.
Alien will love that.
@richard that'd be one way of stretching yourself ;p i thought about shaking things up and doing something different. but who knows?!
Utah - but then everyone will think you are me! That won't be good for you.
But see, if everybody thinks I'm you then they won't vote against Utah...or something.
You are generally better-liked than me. I can only see this as being a win for Utah.
I think you are mistaken. I'm generally hated.
Battle Ready!

My song.
3 days now???
brackets?
^ someone is getting antsy! LOL!
Okay. I'm at work right now and I can't put it together now. But I will get the brackets together and posted tonight.

thoughts?
No, the brackets will have names.
The prompts are given anonymously and stories posted blind.

EDIT
Nevermind.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH. okay. duh. that makes a lot more sense.
Sweeeeeeet. Can't wait to see brackets!!! Ahhhh! so yeah, pretty excited.

This is quasi-beta-war.
@Richard: I assume AWP was fun?
@chester - AWP was a blast. saw Nik Korpon, Caleb J. Ross, Eddy Rathke, Gordon Highland, Nic Young, Sean P. Ferguson, Misty Bennett from the Velvet/Cult/LR as well as authors like xTx, Mary Miller, Amber Sparks, Amelia Gray, Blake Butler, Kevin Sampsell, Roxanne Gay, Gina Frangello, etc. exhausted.
I'm literally hanging out here waiting for some brackets.
Don't let me down, Utah.
I'm getting sleepy.
@Richard: Shit that sounds fun. Someday I hope to see you there.
@Dolly: Prop your eyelids open with truncated toothpicks. I can't wait to see who's on whom. I hope I am on someone or someone is on me.
"I can't wait to see who's on whom. I hope I am on someone or someone is on me."
I know, me too!!!
That would be weird if you were on me or I was on you. I mean, for real and not just figuratively, especially after we just had this little exchange.
edit: Yes Mr. Moon, I was talking to you.
@chester thx!
@richard sounds like you had a blast.
@everyone I can't wait to see who I get to finger first!
Actually, Rian, that is interesting how you slipped between Avery and me just then. Depending of course who's on whom.
Aww, thanks... You just made my day.
Chester, this is for you, bud:
@Nikki: Come here. Yeah, a bit closer. Don't be shy, that's right...smell my finger.
Oh, Utah - I have to go to sleep soon.
Because I'm 80.
I'll have to wait until morning to see who's on whom.
Sometimes that's best.
@Rian: I sing that to my wife all the time.
@Utah: Thanks Man, I will keep my ears peeled.
Sweet dreams Jessica. Sweet who's on whom dreams.
Chester - I believe that you do.
Okay, 'nough love. Back to War...
I come to bring the pain...
I'll be dreaming about who's on whom all night long!
Skyrockets in flight...
@Jess
That's dirty.
@chester i'd come closer to smell your finger but i got the stank of christina hendicks all over my face and i'm just not willing to part with that odiferous gift yet. but ya can smell my mouth if ya want.
Only if it smells like odiferous hendicks.
yeah, well that, and my finger.
If you like Christina, then go half-way down this page for a doppelganger.
