Shit. I knew it would happen like this. Okay, here it is. manda lynn has slot 32. Pandamask, I'm putting you down as an alternate. There are 32 people in this, one or more of them is likely to bow out in the next week.
WANTED:
Some people who are willing to be alternates for WAR. Everyone who now wants to be included in the tournament brackets will be placed on the alternate list and if anyone bows out at any point for the rest of the competition will be replaced by an alternate.
And now, allow me to take this moment to say this:
HOLY FUCK, WE FILLED THE TOURNAMENT! GAME ON, MOTHERFUCKERS!

If it comes down to it, I think I can put together a hybrid bracket. Keep recruiting. If we get enough "alternates" I should be able to put together some weird bastardized system that will make it possible to accomodate everybody. Worse come to worst I think it will just mean that some of the lower seeds get a "by" week.
So hell yeah. Pandamask, you're down as an alternate now, but if we get enough more people, or when someone drops out, you're in. So for right now just plan on being in.
Dear Ringers (Richard, Nikki, Amanda): Thanks for joining us. Getting writers of your caliber into the contest was a personal goal of mine because I really wanted WAR to be as tough a competition as possible and you guys bring a lot to the table. The rest of us know that we're going to have to bring our best to make it past the first couple rounds now, and that's really the spirit of this tournament.

I'm not sure how many more would be a good number to shoot for. Just looking at some preliminary stuff it looks like there would have to be at least one snuff round where not everybody participated, just the additional folks fighting for a slot in the tourney. I'm not opposed to that per se, but it would put a 2-week hold on the tourney proper. But I'm not finished researching, either, so let's press forward and find a way to make it work. Right now I'll slate every new contestant in as an alternate, and figure out how to restructure the bracket to include everyone if we can.
And by the way, if anyone knows how we can manipulate the brackets to accomplish this, feel free to let me know!

just stick to 32. if people didn't get in by now, then they weren't paying attention. sure, keep a few alternates, but don't make a big deal out of it. you've only been filling slots for what...a week? more? i'm sure we'll do it again at some point.
if you aren't sure how to seed, you can always look to the NCAA Hoops. they rank the top teams in the nation (62 i think) and then start dividing the top seeds up per bracket.
Rankings (based on best records in the USA, and other factors):
1. Kentucky
2. Syracuse
3. Kansas
4. Duke
5. Michigan State
6. NC
7. Missouri
8. Marquette
So brackets might be something like
North:
1. Kentucky
2. Michigan State
South:
1. Syracuse
2. NC
East:
1. Kansas
2. NC
West:
1. Duke
2. Marquette
but the brackets would be
#1 Kentucky vs #16 ___________
#2 Michigan St vs #15 _________
etc.
Obviously we have only 32 teams, but that's how it breaks out.

@Alien: the best thing to do is take a look at this bracket. I haven't been able to figure out how to create separate seeds, but don't worry about that. Just consider that, on this bracket, the numbers 1-4 are the seed 1s we are creating. 5-8 are seed 2, etc. If you look at that, the guy considered best (1) has his first match against the person considered least (32). And this is how you create the matchups.
