I know a lot of publishers would like you to have some stuff on the internet to generate more sales and word-of-mouth. . It's funny how that works, but it does. I work for a publisher and yea, it's like if you have stuff up it's sometimes better .But every situation is different. So you have to do what is right for you. Sometimes pulling would be better, i can understand that.

Yeah I know what you are saying. I think I have 4 stories up online currently and it's been great for word of mouth and people approaching me about work. But I definitely don't want to pretend to give first rights to a publisher when they aren't there. I don't think any publishing house is gonna be cool with being stiffed in that manner. I actually worked at an intellectual property law firm for over a year when I was in law school and people get pretty darn pissy and protective over that kind of thing. And it's really messy because cyber law is such a new area of law.
So yeah you can put your work out there as much as possible and I wouldn't be all freaky about not letting people see your work but I would be very careful of how you present a work to a publisher. You might burn a bridge through inadvertently misleading someone.

Yes it's a whole new world. I think since you are known it makes a bigger difference. I'm sorry i didnt' think of that. For someone like me it does not really matter so much. I'm in publishing industry and it has been crazy working out deals for e-book vs. p-book. Haha. but we will all survive. Didn't mean to criticize Nikki. All good?

Oh yeah it's all good and feel free to call bullshit. That's totally respected. :-) I'm not well known like Richard is in the short story realm although I have a few out. My focus and world is more about the scriptwriting really. That said short stories are a proving ground. I didn't worry about my exposure until recently bec like you it was really pointless. :-)

Hmm. Well, the polls are scheduled to run until Sunday. But there is this thought of closing them today for discussion. What does everybody feel about that? Specifically, what do all the people who are not leading in their battles feel about that? There is enough disparity in some battles that more time wouldn't make a difference, while other are very close.

Voting has seemed to have slowed down, but some people might still be making their way through all the stories. I just assumed it would be done on Friday because we started early last week, which is silly, yes, but not stupid.

I tend to lean toward Amanda's way of thinking, though. There are people who will want to dedicate time to it tonight and tomorrow. Myself included. So, much as I would like to do a big reveal tonight, we should wait. However, tomorrow night might be an option.

Grigory, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but in a few moments or days Alien is going to ask you for photographs of yourself, if he hasn't already. Then he'll likely ask you if your hair is that color everywhere or, if you're still shaving your head, ask you if you're clean-shaven all over.
I'm not saying it's wrong to give him the pictures he requests. That's entirely between you and your personal code of ethics.

I feel deeply hurt that you've never asked me for nude pics, alien. I've been wondering why I've had a case of the feelings lately, and now I realize why.

Actually, I wanted to run the polls for 6 days, which would have made them over tomorrow, but could not find that as an option.
oooh, but what about the people that would get reading time tonight since it's friday and there's no work tomorrow?
yes. my brain works from a place that friday night means possible extra reading time.
Oh, it's still an option. Because you made it one.
@Manda - That's a fine thing, you know. You're cool in my books.

Jason, comments?
there are some REALLY CLOSE matches that keep going back and forth by one...
I know! It's driving me crazy!
If they are tied, eliminate them both lol
@Alien: technically, you and your opponent are tied at zero votes.
@Utah
Alien has my vote. His opponent (not featured in this thread) and I had an understanding involving a cricket bat and jumper cables. So that's 1-0 then, right? Clear victory!
I have one vote on best overall story so there and Grigori likes me, that is all that matters.
Alien advances to Round 2!
grig and his cricket bat. solving problems since 1976.

@alien
It beats the alternative. Because let's be honest, I still have the jumper cables.
Utah, I asked Grigori about his penis in his intro thread, that ship has sailed.
All the guys on here share nude photos, it's a dude thing, bro.
I feel deeply hurt that you've never asked me for nude pics, alien. I've been wondering why I've had a case of the feelings lately, and now I realize why.
Nude photos???
Utah, I have already seen your penis in my dreams. It was floating around in a sandwich shop. I wonder what Freud would say.
He would probably say that I like sandwiches. Which is true. I do like sandwiches.
I don't know what he would say about you.
