I'd throw in my two cents: dreams, pain/frustration, stories I hear. I love turning people into characters and never let them know.

A lot of stuff inspires me. Like Bekanator, Mad Men inspires me. This YouTube trailer inspired me to write a short story I'm quite proud of. Guilt inspires me. My ex-girlfriend's armpit stubble inspires me. This poetry reading inspires me. The guy who humps things in the train also inspires me.

A recurring theme: music inspires me. Also architecture.
I'm inspired by the totally mundane. Growing up I was an accomplished liar. I still am, but I've learned to call it creative writing instead. When something happens....say I have a close run in with a car on my way to work, in my mind I instantly change what happened. I think of a completely different outcome and start following that false reality until I force myself to stop.

Nat Geo is good too. I come up with a shitload of decent ideas while watching mindless reality tv and competition shows. I think I filled up about half a notebook last year while watching Wipeout! and Survivor. I think the most inspirational show for me though is the British panel show Q.I.

I also brainstorm in bathrooms especially showers though not just any bathroom it needs to be small, cramped and have that dull white light from the ceiling not those damn obscene bright orange lights

@Averydoll: Lots of people know you plot in the bathtub?
Inspiration, inspiration...work inpires me. Ass-in-the-chair time. Another thing is nonfiction. I'll be reading/listening to an audiobook and little snippets stick out to me. Something that gives me a bit of a visual. A good portion of what I write starts out as a snapshot image that comes to me from something like that. I blow it up and try to figure out where that image would have come from.

wtf is it distilled from? Toad poppies?
I never, never drink it. Had some last Saturday though, I had to sing Kurt Cobain - gawd bless him - at a Nevermind anniversary gig, whisky a fast way to achieve the right howl, right? As a matter of fact, voice ended up being Cobain-y enough for a girl. Everybody happy in the audience and stuff.
Sunday morning I wanted to die. I went totally cold turkey. Could not move, could not lie still, just like fucking H. I have to admit I don't drink much lately, still it was not my first hangover.
Is that stuff even legal?
