Nobody's made any of these threads yet. That's a shame, because they're a good way for us all to get to know the new people. A lot of us already know each other from other sites — but that's not going to be the case when more people join.

I am Phil. Along with Dennis and Kirk, I am one of the co-founders of LitReactor, though to give credit where it's due, they're the ones who came up with the idea first — everyone should send candy to these guys, because a lot of work's been put into getting this thing ready.

I'm a musician, translator, and fiction writer. I'm Portuguese and French, but I live in the UK. I have a BA in Literature and an MA in Philosophy, and once enough time has passed for me to feel totally unproductive, I'll do my PhD.

With my friend Sam, I make music under the name Paris and the Hiltons. We recently finished a massive album based on the work of William Faulkner. You can download it for free here.

I'm very close to completing a book about my late mother, who, it turns out, had a lot of surprising secrets.

My favorite authors include Alasdair Gray, William Faulkner, Thomas Pynchon, Hubert Selby Jr, Jose Saramago, Philip Roth, Roberto Bolano, and the Dude Dostoevsky.

Welcome onboard, amigos.

I am Nathan -the wife and close friends call me Nate -but both names make me feel like myself. I joined The Cult about a year ago, and it changed my life in many ways. Since then, I've also gotten to know a lot of great people -none in person yet, unfortunately, but that just might change now that I'm down in Florida and living not far from the legendary Jairo!

My move to Florida happened in Mid to Late July of this year, and before that I lived around the Boston area of Massachusetts, so while I'm bummed about the Red Sox -The Tampa Rays will do.

Ultimately, though -my allegiance is to LSU. That's where my mother and father met before creating me through their back and forth motion. See, I'm originally from Louisiana -have lived in 3 different states now and have seen many more on my adventures -I love to travel.

But I'm here because I'm a writer -I've become a far better writer since interacting with other writers and participating in some writing intensives, not unlike the ones that LitReactor will be offering. That said, LitReactor is very exciting for me. Expect to see me around in these threads, the classes, and other places. I'm really looking forward to meeting more people here.

I've already listed my favorite authors in my profile or whatever, so I guess I'll say that some of my favorite new writers to show up on the scene in the last year or two are Len Kuntz, Martin Garrity, Doc O'Donnell, Rebecca Jones-Howe, W.P. Johnson, Chester Pane, Liana Vrajitoru Andreasen, The Fortune Wookie and Chris Lewis Carter -just to name a few.

Oh boy, an introduction thread... This means I can talk about myself, something I go out of my way to avoid...

Anyhow, in case anyone cares, I'm Kirk Clawes. I have the pleasure of being the guy who heads up the technical portion of our rag-tag crew. I'm a web developer by trade, spend way more time online than is probably healthy and I love to eat tacos. Of course, I've been trying to have a healthier diet as of late, so not too many tacos... I think I'm a friendly person, but what do I know? If anyone wants to chat web-dev shoot me a message.

Honestly though, our team is incredibly impressive. Seriously, look at all these awesome people

If there is anything we can do to make this place better, please let us know. I won't promise that we'll do it, but we will certainly give it some thought.

Okay, my turn.  I'm one of the co-founders of LitReactor as well, and the webmaster of ChuckPalahniuk.net.  Mention also needs to be given to Mark Vanderpool, who played a large part in helping to conceive this new site.  He's our Director of Education here and the pulse behind all of our Classes.

Kirk and I have spun quite a few side ventures while working at The Cult.  We also have SuitupScene.com, a site he conceived that collects 'suit-up scenes' in films of all genres.  Then he and I also work at Fantombox.com, a design, SEO and marketing company that does contract work.

But my big passion is filmmaking.  Since 1993 I've been writing scripts and directing feature-length, documentary and short movies.  I run all of this out of my company Parallactic Pictures, which I co-founded with my writing/directing partner, Kevin Kolsch.

Here's our director's reel.

Recently, I wrote and directed a short film called Curtain which just played at Fantastic Fest, the largest genre festival in North America.

Here's the trailer for Curtain.

I'm from NY originally but moved to Los Angeles in 2007.  I currently live in Beachwood Canyon, a nice portion of the Hollywood Hills.  Together with my girlfriend, we share a one bedroom apartment with two cats.  In my sparetime, I enjoy writing scripts (am trying to sell my first screenplay by 2013) and making movies (trying to direct my third feature this summer).  I also enjoy photography and you can find some of my work on Flickr, DeviantArt and Exposure Room.  Also like going for long walks, traveling and hotels, eating out (and in), seeing movies, obsessing over MMA and what new UFC event is coming up, petting my cats, and vegging on the couch in front of the TV.

Favorite movie of all time is Aliens.  Favorite director is Peter Weir.  Favorite books are The Lord of the Rings and American Tabloid.  Favorite author is Elmore Leonard.

Nice to meet you all.

After filling out the profile pages, I am quite tired of talking about myself.  Anyway, I hope to make the most of this community, there seem to be some good people on it, already.  Sadly, I will probably never be able to afford the premium features of the site.  I will do best not to bother the paying customers with my silly impoverished antics.  Please ignore my attempted wit, unless, of course, you find my wit funny.  Then by all means, enjoy.

In conclusion, Hi! I am A. Mason Carpenter.  Or at least that is my silly pen-name.  Who uses a pen, anymore?  Shouldn't it be "key-name?"  Or "pixel-name?"  I digress.  Someone get me away from this keyboard before I hurt myself.

My name is Apple Ardent Scott. I write stories, and a hound dog digs a hole.

My profession should read "Sandwich Filling", as I have a school-aged kid and an aging mother, and am privileged to care for both of them 24/7 along with going to college, writing (submitting, querying, etc.), attending and running writers' workshops, and running my own business. The squeeze only hurts a little, and inspires many horror stories, so I can't complain (too much).

I'm excited about being here at LitReactor even more than I was about joining ChuckPalahniuk.net, and since I rarely show emotion, I'd appreciate it if you kept that on the down-low.

I dig satire, irony, sarcasm, and things that make other people uncomfortable.

The dreaded introduction thread. This is almost as painful as the query letter. What the hell.

In all things, I'm a troublemaker. Sometimes I even get paid for it. When I'm rambling, especially if my pipe is lit and the tobacco burning, I sound a little like Lewis Black, just not always with a punchline. I chronically consider running for public office, mostly because I know it will stir things up but partially because the demon inside my head tells me I could win. I do know it would be the best and worst decision I could make.

I'm a stepfather and a stepuncle, and it makes me appreciative of any adult rolemodels and their influence over the next generation. Sometimes all kids need to see is someone else doing it the right way.

I cry at the manufactured emotional moments in movies, and I hate myself for them, but I'm more likely to laugh than scream at horror films. I do scream at roller coasters, but only because it makes you lightheaded and that makes the ride more fun.

I'm hear becaue I want to talk, and I'll be talking when people realize they want to listen.

Hi guys. I'm Amber, some of you know me as Pepper, but lets not call me that here.

I am not very fond of describing myself, as most of the more interesting parts I'd rather keep quiet, though I do have a bad habit of talking about myself (which is vastly different than describing oneself) so I suppose whoever does not know me will eventually if they bother with my rambling at all.

It takes me forever to get around to anything, there is a whole drawn out process of realising I should mull it over, finally getting to the guts of the mulling, thinking some more about the rest and all the other then about a year or and aeon or two later finally deciding there might be some physical work involved worth the effort. I've forgotton what I was talking about. Oh yeah. Writing. I need to start with doing that again. It is pretty important.

I'll probably be joining the workshop and classes and stuff soon. Excited isn't quite the right word, something around there though.

Nick Wilczynski from Greensboro, NC is reading A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin October 1, 2011 - 9:46pm

My name is Nick, this is the part where I endear myself to the community,

Let me get something off of my chest. I did think about joining the Cult once, I don't remember how far I got through the registration paperwork, but I had a stark revelation that I don't like Chuck's work that much.

Not that he isn't a good writer, I mean, at that point I had read all of his books, but when the total measure of those novels was taken while it was a completely respectable bunch of books, I couldn't bring myself to join a fansite for the guy. Especially since he had turned me on to Amy Hempel at that point and I was lost to his writings after that. I would probably have joined if it had been an Amy Hempel fansite.

Anyway, so somehow drug addicts, especially speed or meth heads, they talk about being the person they want to be, like when they are doing their substance of choice they are as amped up and alive as they know how to feel. Writing has been my substance of choice since I was like 8.

I speak a little Russian, I dearly love Russian novels. And Kafka.

Hey guys,  I'm Lyndon, and may so far be the most geographically remote of all of us, hailing from the mighty island of Tasmania, right at the bottom of the map.  Look closely - you'll find it.

For me this is a really exciting opportunity to get feedback on my work, and what I'm particularly hoping to find is some quality fantasy and sci-fi fans keen to critique.  I've made some great writing friends in Tassie, but all of which have their own little niches of interest, and as much as I love them, I'm excited to get some responses from the kinds of people who will actually make up its audience.

So hello, it's a pleasure to meet you all.

All I know about Tasmania is that those devils are adorable and supposedly ferocious. Do they roam your towns like stray dogs? Did you ever take in a devil cub (I guess) and raise it, feeding it from a bottle, only to have it turn on you in your sleep? Do all people from Tasmania roll their eyes whenever an American asks them about the devils?

I'm Annie. I'm from South Africa. Like Tasmania, it's a little lower down on the map. My first love is writing, so naturally I became a magazine editor so that I could hack at other people's writing, while clutching mine to my chest to keep it safe, warm and generally incapable of facing the big, bad world. (Oh, and to eat free food at swanky parties - fuck, I love being media sometimes). So yeah, here I am trying turn my stunted babies into something.

Well, that's a start. Hi. I'm really looking forward to getting involved here.

lyndonriggall's picture
lyndonriggall from Tasmania is reading Going Bovine by Libba Bray October 2, 2011 - 5:27pm

How likely are you ever to come to Tasmania?  If it's pretty unlikely, then guess what? ALL THOSE THINGS ARE TRUE.  Except that also the adult Tassie devils are brown, and when they spin in a tornado they make a sound like "Zwawzawzzzwaaawwaaazwzwzaaaawza".

The relationship with child-bearing is pretty mutual.  I for one was given up as a toddler to a wonderful pack of devils, where I had the pleasure of learning basic survival skills and pack brawling.  Most families choose between the public school system, private schools, or 'cubbing'.  The choice is hard, and for most based on income, but usually works out for the best.

We do roll our eyes at such questions, but then we remember that we shot all the tigers, so quite frankly deserve to take some pain.  Wiping a species to extinction is no picnic.

And it'll be me.

So.  Er.  Until my inevitable incarceration for dairy crimes, I like to read liminal stuff at the edges where genres get blurry -- like VanderMeer and Gaiman and the late, lamented Angela Carter -- and make gin and tonics.  Because Texas is hot, y'all.  It is a serious thing, the hot.  So much hot.

Oh, go on then.

My name is Martin Garrity and I hail from Mansfield, a town in middle England. According to this thread I'm at amongst at least one person's favorite new writers (you rock Nathan!!!)

I joined The Cult a little over a year ago, both as a Chuck P fan and as someone who was looking for a way into a workshop type environment. Naturally The Cult led me here.

I'm a fan of most kinds of 'darker' fiction. Transgressive stuff, neo-noir, the darker end of sci-fi etc. I'm also a HUGE short story fan, and I easily read as many collections as I do novels. I also have a writer's hideout/blog called solarcide.com where I post links to my stories alongside special guest stories and author interviews. I'd love for you guys to take a gander over there.

Outside of reading and writing - I studied human psychology for my degree. I'm a avid heavy metal fan and a wargamer. I'm a healthcare worker in a busy hospital to pay for all my other habits. Erm,,, yeah!

Cheers.

-Jenny, are there illustrations to accompany the text? Cuz I started seeing things involving sweat and I don't want to misinterpret the text.

DKelley, get Shoppin' man! Can't wait to read you.

If you guessed that I'm procrastinating opening up to a thread full of people, well, you guessed right. Reminds me of some of the chair circles I've sat in. You know the ones where some mind doctor (Phil, not pointing any fingers) suggests going around the circle so everyone can introduce themselves. Well, I'm usually the guy who has chewed off his bottom lip and swallowed it by the time my turn comes around. You don't realize just how important bottom lips are until you try to speak without one.

Fortunately this circle (which I must say is looking mighty sexy, wink, wink) doesn't require a bottom lip to communicate. So unless I chew off one of my keypeckers, I think jerking around this threadcircle is something I can handle. Plus I'm in love with all of you already and envision a threadorgy at some point later in the game after were all better acquainted so I probably should let you know who I am just in case, well, you know...

I live in Portland Oregon with my wife and two teen boys though we spend a lot of time in France where a branch of our family resides. I restore old homes to bring in dough and keep things flexible enough (if you can call feast or famine flexible) so I can continue to write-- unless my wife asks me to restore part of our house.

I attended the University of Oregon, University of Stuttgart, Kunstakademie Stuttgart and Portland State University and believe it or not still desire more education, but have no time.

So I started looking online because that was the only way I figured I could fit it in. When I  started looking around I found The Cult. That day Mark Vanderpool was offering the Zen course (Awesome) and I've been addicted ever since to the support and education it provides. And the community. Someone's shoulder to cry on. The friends (they probably don't see it that way) I have met have changed my writing. Motivated it. Also if we ever have that threadorgy, I am going to be crawling over bodies to say hi to all the wonderful Reactors.

However, as much as I love The Cult it lacks the writing focus that I think we have all been looking for. Fortunately these Litheads created this.

Applause to the team!

LitReactor is the Lit. Lit happens here. Okay I better sit down before I start chewing on my Lit.

Good news everyone, I'm here!

I have the same handle over at The Velvet and Thy Cult, so, be forewarned. I will undoubtedly talk too much about music and movies I like, and try to make an effort to be all up in them workshops. I will ramble about my storytelling theories and criticisms at the slightest prompt, or resort to making off color jokes to the perturbation  of everyone involved. Apologies in advance.

Me, live here in Florida. Work when I can get it, write when I need to. Sort of a healthier form of self-immolation, leaves less visible scars anyway. Got involved in all of this because I needed to start taking writing seriously again and surround myself with people that do so.

Favorite writers, Harlan Ellison, Harry Crews, Donald Barthelme, Umberto Eco, Michael Chabon, Raymond Chandler, Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Terry Pratchett, Damn too many already.

Used to hang at The Cult, moved over to The Velvet. I sell cars, and I hate it, but jobs are hard to come by, and I've been doing it for a long time.

I lean to more Horrific efforts when it comes to writing. My motto is: It's All Horror, which basically means that any scenario can be twisted into something horrific. I grew up reading thick bestsellers by writers like Stephen King, Peter Straub, Clive Barker. I almost gave up on reading new stuff until I read Fight Club. Seriously, I was just going to be content rereading all my favorite books forever. I haven't read any of Chuck's new books, probably won't, let the 'Bob, you should give Chuck's new stuff a chance' posts begin.

I run http://bobpastorella.com/, aka Obscuradrome, where I usually make a fool of myself, but if you've got something you want me to pimp for, book coming out, short-story collection, or you won an award for your writing, let me know and I'll do my best to spread the word. Other than that, I'm glad to be here and look forward to contributing to the craft of writing.

I live on the beach and next to the cemetery in Sydney, Australia. I'm corporate counsel for a property and construction company which is owned by a large, fithly rich Canadian company. Now this is SUPER convenient for me as my other half is Canadian and has moved back to Toronto. I'm a bit of a contradiction. A happy vegetarian that loves fluffy animals, little kids and is a loyal friend, but will eat anyone alive who fuqs with me or those I care about. I like cranky, dirty, dark music one day, then beautiful, inspiring, uplifting, floaty stuff the next.

Like everyone else, I want to be a writer! Aside from those lucky fuqers who have worked hard and smart enough to already make it. I hope this site will give me inspiration and ideas, practical ways to get rid of the bad writing habits I've developed being a lawyer and a bit of fun chatting with other readers and writers.

If you feel like listening to my 140 character rants, I do love twitter - https://twitter.com/#!/Mess_Jess

(Last tweet was: Sigh. Stomach wants chips now I can eat again. NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS SKINNY FEELS STOMACH.)

I never know what to write for these things, but hello, all you wonderfully creative souls. I look forward to lurking and learning from you. I've always wanted to write, but have been too afraid of sucking to give it a proper go, something I hope to remedy while here.

Very glad I stumbled on the LitReactor twitter.

Hey Izzy!  Don't be afraid of sucking!  I mean, what's the worst that happens, right?  You have some words on a page.  They won't revolt and bite you, I promise. -grin-

I think, if I can offer any advice in all the years I've been traveling this earth, it would be to write for you.  Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.  No one else has to see it if you don't want.  But if you have a story, you're a storyteller, and it'd be a shame to let fear stop you from doing anything. -grin- Well, except the bad stuff like running with scissors or putting your fork in the light socket.  Don't do those.

Go!  Create!  Imaginate!
