I get that. I agree with the names being changed too. No matter how much you think you can place yourself in that persons place, you never really will know. Also you have to respect that person and what happened to them.

Telling someone they need to be bitch-slapped sounds like you're angry haha. I'm not attacking you btw I just thought it was funny.

I did mention early though, The protagonist has an exadurated response to how i'd deal with it. It's not happened to me-ish, But i'm closer to it than just hear-say.

I have an idea what to call one of the violent rapists though :p

Your main question was : "Is a short story about a boy being raped in bad taste?" For me, it could be in bad taste only if it harms that raped boy - if reading that story will open up his trauma, make him suffer all that shit again. You should think about it.

And ethnicity? At first post you wrote only one word about them being polish and I took this as a part of  description, nothing more. I assume that story is about specific crime and victim-perpetrator relations, not about 'how those dirty Poles like to rape someone from time to time' :) It's like writing 'rapist was red-haired man' - it's stupid to accuse this of hate for all red-haired, right?

That's my opinion. Sorry for my polish jabbering.

The one thing I haven't noticed anyone address yet is whether "that's a plot that holds some intrigue?" I would have to say, based on what you've given here, it's not, but it could be. Hell, anything could be intriguing. It's all in how it's told.

So maybe take that as the challenge, if it's something you want to write about, find a way to make it intriguing.

Also, is it the boy being raped or doing the raping, because you go on to say that it's two boys that rape a guy. Maybe that could be a sequel to that movie Chronicle.

These are from five seconds of pulling titles from my head, and there are more. Classics, write well and freely.

The easiest solution is to write the story and post it in the workshop.  There's no sense in arguing about a story nobody's actually read yet.

Unless it's, like, a Watchmen prequel or some other comic book movie adaptation.

I have my issues with the Watchmen prequel, but before I bash on it I have to see how it turns out. The people working on it are good, but obviously nowhere close to Alan Moore.

Yeah, it's pretty hilarious that all this debate is over a theoretical story.

I'm going to write a story about killing babies but the killer is black.  attack me!!!

See how silly that sounds. This thread is making me want to put an electrical drill to my skull.

@nathaniel--did you see Chronicle?  How was it? Was it about raping pollocks?

PandaMask's picture

Why did you mention drills?!

That's so racist!

I don't think the drills would approve!

It's a touchy subject considering how drills have been mistreated over the years. tsk tsk

aliensoul77's picture
aliensoul77 from a cold distant star is reading the writing on the wall. February 5, 2012 - 1:34am

I know.  I'm so ashamed. I didn't think of all the drills from Drillland. I apologize to every store that ever carried a drill, the drill's relatives and the great grandchildren of those drills for what my ancestors did to them. I can never take back the pain of their drilling but I can offer reparation funds and affirmative drill action. Also, nine acres and a mule, doesn't that make up for all those years of drill slavery?

@ Ash - no, not in bad taste - I think of Peter Straub's "The Juniper Tree" and King's "The Library Policemen" for a couple of examples...but, the first draft (when you write it) might be tasteless but you'll edit that & receive more input like the previous 78+ posts...because this is not a light subject that anyone would read for entertainment...

@ Ash: I know it's not about race. Most everyone here knows it's not about race. Disregard it and move on. Write the story and then see what happens. What's the worst that can happen? Guys who say they were never gay before but then get a butt-buddy in prison. They say rape is about power but I guess it's also about loneliness and horniness in confined spaces. So the point of all this is:  Panda and JfDiaz, let's share a cell together LOL

I haven't seen it. I'm kind of scared to, because it looks like it could be a really good story, and it probably starts off that way and then they Hollywood the crap out of it by the end. But who knows In Time surprised me. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it sure was a helluva lot better than I was expecting.

Also, how about this: A story about a Rape Race. A guy has to rape so many people in 24 hours or he dies!

Correct, sir!  Really, I just like to watch a bunch of drunk people intentionally misunderstand each other so they can be the one to say the next really witty thing to impress everyone, while everyone around whispers to the guy next to him, "Wow, these guys are really really drunk.  It's hilarious!"
