@bek - yeah, "The Fence" was one of my favorites in that collection, i talked about it in my review at TNB. i love her work, read it whenever i can. and she's so nice. i read at her reading series Quickies! here in chicago, and another TNB event recently. i just love the voice she uses, the down home, fuck you, vulnerable and yet angry POV. i haven't read Jenn Farrell, but i'll add her to my Goodreads list. thanks for the suggestions.

Terms we have like “mental illness,” “insanity,” “pathology” and the like all come with pair of problems: they define mad persons by what they lack or their perceived deviation from the mean and they come with a built in negative value judgement of the experiential reality of mad persons. “Madness,” at the very least, observes that what it describes is something in itself rather than a lack of some privileged value. It gives a nod to madness as real, as an experience of something. “Madness” opens the door for mad persons to take ownership of, and exercise some degree of agency over, their experiences. That’s important when we talk about madness because we often lose sight of the fact that we’re talking about real human beings with real experiences and real rights.

I really like that post Rebecca. I largely agree with that viewpoint.
If anyone still cares, then I would like to throw my support behind the term Madness for the title rather than Mental Illness. The latter is too clinical and institutional for most of our stories in my opinion. Madness is more appropriate. Nothing like a deal-breaker though, ninety percent of the time the terms are inter-changeable.
And while I'm on the topic, I am gonna be that guy. Is the dividing into sections neccessary? Because I am pedantic about titles sometimes and those two bug me a little. Do the psychoses in the second half actually have a 'medicated' theme? Mine doesn't, the use of medication in my story is to supress the psychosis, not exaggerate it. Mine is very much a dementia.
As I say, probably just me being a pedant but those sub-titles don't sit right for me.
Fantastic looking content list though. Can't wait to see this pan out. You are all very good eggs!

Psychosis: An Anthology is right. That or simply The Psychosis Anthology.
Think about it. All this dicussion about what to call it, yet we're all calling it what it is already. Psychosis. Down the road, if people read it, they won't say "Did you check out Psychosis: An anothology of Mental Madness and Wackness?" They'll call it Psychosis. "Read Psychosis. Loved it," or "I read the Psychosis anothlogy," much like people refer to the Warmed and Bound as "The Velvet Anthology."
"I think you should read Martin's story in the Pyschosis anthology. It's great." "Really? Yeah Psychosis is next on my list for books to buy!"
That's how people talk, and how they'll refer to it. So why not call it what it is, and then for literary name purposes, give it a simple extension: An Anthology.
The Psychosis Anthology. Or... Psychosis: An Anthology.

Hey gang--
I know I haven't updated you in awhile so I will. I have gotten a lot of rejections from agents so far but mostly because they don't handle "psychological thrillers" or whatever. I have gotten a few publisher rejections because it doesn't into their market niche but overall we still have a lot of queries out there and they can take as long as 6 months. That's why I decided to work on the Surreal Grotesque magazine in the meantime to occupy myself. I just want you to know that I am still very much dedicated to the anthology and want to see it get published one way or another. I'm actually using the Surreal Grotesque as a way of promoting our anthology. I will be posting a full page ad in every issue linking to our website so people can get a look at it and maybe generate some interest. Also, I encourage anyone who submitted to the anthology to submit something to the magazine, I think you are all great writers and would be honored to read your stuff again. The title seems to be making some people wary so I will elaborate, Surreal Grotesque doesn't mean it has to be "gross" or feature mutant babies gnawing off people's appendages but if that's your bag, cool. I honestly am looking for anything strange, surreal, weird and horror/thriller/psychologically demented. I am open to flash fiction 500-1000 words and 1500-2500 pieces if they are really good. As well as poetry. You guys will get top priority for me over any other submitters from duotrope because I value you as writers so don't be afraid to submit.
Also, litreactor is going to help promote this magazine through their social networking services so I'm optimistic that we can get a large readership.
