I don't argue that America is a badass nation. In fact I'm pretty sure that the "U.S. History" song supports the idea that we are the MOST badass nation.
Gotta disagree with you there. Consider: Egypt. Greece. The Roman Empire. The Mongolian Khan. The Papal Sates. Spain. The British Empire.
Each had its hayday, each eventually rolled over and died, or fell to a sucessor. As will America. "The MOST badass nation" is a very temporary award. Each of those nations conquorered others on the field of battle to tame savages and win glory. For you, it's to bring democracy and win love of your people. Now, I am not saying that my nation is better, I'm just saying that your nation will die as well and it is inevitable. No nation lives for more than a few hundred years without being conquored or reformed or divided.
"But we had our division in the civil war!" you cry. No. In this case, division means seceeding into two or more distinct nations. For instance, France was split into France, Normandy, Aquitane, Brittany, Toulouse and Flanders. Each was a duchy or somesuch and was self ruling.
"We reformed all the time. Civil rights, and so on..." No. Again. A reformation means, for instance, a government changing from a despotic monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. So unless America changed from a constitutional republic to something else...
Third, you have yet to be conquored, so that is a moot point. All I'm saying is, don't get comfortable, you have something coming.

I recently saw this man, Chilly Gonzales (the self-proclaimed "Musical Genius"), at his Piano Talk Show in Vancouver. This video is from his New York show but it's similar to the one I saw. He puts on a brilliant show: hilarious and touching, and he is fucking maniacal on the piano:

averydoll, I wrote a fan letter to Jewel around that time, and it got sent back to me because "her people" didn't want to get misunderstood for using my words. (She has amazing words.) I don't remember what I wrote...wow, it's like almost twenty years! I feel old. Thanks.
I recently heard a song by Jewel called "Satisfied" and here are the lyrics:

It's not an act! The song yesterday had me going back through some of her stuff. I've always enjoyed it. However, if I ever tell you I like Tool, it's a filthy lie.
@Dave, good song!
Sunday.
Monday!
Oh, to be young, thin and drunkenly tragic.
Also! Because I don't post enough Weezer songs on here.....
Here is an exceptional Weezer cover!!

Not bad for a live recording.

It's a short piece, but I've always loved it.

Grigori! Another VAST fan? This gets more and more strange.

Très apropos.

One of my favorite songs. Wednesday! It's Wednesday? Right? Yeah. Ok.

I recently heard a song by Jewel called "Satisfied" and here are the lyrics:
If you love somebody
You better let it out
Don't hold it back
While you're trying to figure it out
Don't be timid
Don't be afraid to hurt
Run toward the flame
Run toward the fire
Hold on for all your worth
Cause the only real pain a heart can ever know
Is the sorrow of regret
When you don't let your feelings show
[Chorus]
So did you say it
Did you mean it
Did you lay it on the line
Did you make it count
Did you look 'em in the eye
Did they feel it
Did you say it in time
Did you say it out loud
'cause if you did hun
Then you lived some
That feeling inside
That's called satisfied
Busy people walking by
Can't help but worry some
With so many things to do
So little love gets done
Empty hearts everywhere
Drowning but dying of thirst
If you want love
It's not that tough
Start by giving it first
It's so easy to give
Baby can't you see
Just close your eyes open your heart
And do what comes naturally
[Chorus]
So did you say it
Did you mean it
Did you lay it on the line
Did you make it count
Did you look 'em in the eye
Did they feel it
Did you say it in time
Did you say it out loud
'cause if you did hun
Then you lived some
That feeling inside
That's called satisfied
[Bridge]
Horses are built to run
The sun is meant to shine above
Flowers are made to bloom
And then there's us
We were born to love
[Chorus]
So did you say it
Did you mean it
Did you lay it on the line
Did you make it count
Did you look 'em in the eye
Did they feel it
Did you say it in time
Did you say it out loud
'cause if you did hun
Then you lived some
That feeling inside
That's called satisfied

I changed mine. DMB feat. Alanis Morissette, good song.
Good cover.
