This might not be the time or place to have this discussion but I feel like at some point people need to really start talking about Orphan Black. The show's a phenomenon and I've been catching up on some San Diego Comic Con highlights from their panel and came across this really sweet moment where a fan spoke to Tatiana Maslany (the actress) about how the show, particularly the character Cosima, had affected her and her relationship with her mom and it was breathtaking. There was also some wonderful business with nesting dolls. I just think there should be some sort of discussion about not only how cool and groundbreaking the show is but how deep and impactful its subtext can be too. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I feel like a show that encapsulates female empowerment and the general strength of the human will to survive and be autonomous the way Orphan Black does seems hella relevant to a community of storytellers. Thoughts?
I really enjoyed the first season of Orphan Black, and thought it was tremendous. Tatiana Maslany is absolutely exceptional, and it's amazing to watch her wear all those hats.
Unfortunately, after watching the first couple episodes of the 2nd season, it just wasn't clicking for me like the first season did. I plan on going back and giving it another chance, taking into consideration that maybe I wasn't in the right mindset for it at the time. Hopefully the magic is rekindled for me.
First season is great stuff, second season fell off into "anything goes" territory.
