Legally acquired skull=the owner never said he wanted it back!
@Meat: I really want to read 1Q84.
Hey, I'm new AND I just read 1Q84... both suck.
yo i be trying to get up in a writahs communititties for a while now but I find that they full of a bunch of stupid white people. I am trying to find peopel who are real y'know what I"m sayin'. I am looking for my brothers and sistahs. I grew up in the hood and i want to bring gat experience to my writings and make people feel it. plus i be trying out my new raps and find that even the hoods are gainsts me cause i a gay rapper. i was in the jail for awhiles and i done got turned out. i started messing with des foos and then i realize i was gay. ain't nothing like sucking that black dick. I was tinking about writing a booka bout it, falling in love in prison and realizing that my soul identitty is black nad not white. I am more of a nigga than most of these niggas out there.
Really? I have been getting mixed messages. So you made it through the 900 plus?
Being new doesn't suck. We like new around here. New smells fresh.
EYe don't know who you talking to foo but i ain't no Dandy.
What happened to the guy in the polyester suit?
Don't mess with Mapplethorpe.
YOu can't put a picture of a PENIS on here Chester!!! lol
Try to ban art and let's see what happens. The Oregonian, a pulitzer-prize winning paper didn't have too much luck with that.
And gone in five, four, three, two...
@ Chester: It's just what came to mind. Neither being new or 1Q84 are that bad.
1Q84 is definitely not Murakami's best... and it is a phonebook of a novel that took a long time to get me invested. And by the end of that 900+ I didn't feel much return for said investment. Still, Murakami is much more about the journey than the final destination, and there are a lot of nifty little moments along the way. My personal feeling was that Murakami might believe everything in 1Q84 is essential, but there's a reason that even acclaimed writers have editors. 1Q84 could stand a diet, if you follow.
New is OK, too. Being a broke-ass student, I'm having problems coming up with the money for the workshop membership. Getting feedback on what I'm writing, as well as real experience editing fiction, are the big reasons I'm here. I don't feel quite right getting into long conversations with the community about writing when I haven't 'ponied-up' with my own work. Soon come, however.
You can always submit to my Weekly Prompt on my page or to Chester's Flash Fiction thread.
They are free ways to get your writing out on the site.
I hear you Q.
Well, the workshop is great and hopefully you will find the funds.
But there are a few free places to dabble around here if you are interested like Panda said:
I'll show you mine if you show me yours
Prompt of the Week
Beyond Thunderdome: Writer Battle in LitReactor (Workshop required)
Spread your wings.
I still need to learn how to do that haha.
1Q84 is definitely taking me a LOT longer to get through than any of Murakami's other stuff, many of which I re-read on a regular basis. This one gave me a hard time to get hooked into, and i'm still only 2/3 of the way through it, I have started getting more invested in it, so please no spoilers yet! I'm not as awestruck as I usually am by his stuff is all. Ah well, I'm older and harder to impress than I was when I found Sheep Chase.
Maybe I should start with Sheep Chase.
Panda, try one right now. Go to your Prompt thread and copy the link, then come here and actually type whatever into the window. Highlight the 'whatever' then click on the link icon in the toolbar. Paste your copied link. Click ok or whatever it says. And bingo.
I did it!
Chester, you are an internet wizard.
Man, I'm so glad I started running my mouth! Very cool. I'll definitely check out those sites, and try to contribute until I can come up with the cheeze for the workshop, which will be soon.
Have a good night, everyone.
It is ridiculous when you know how easy it is. But you need that tool for your thread work. You Go!
I am now following haha.
Who's tumblr is this?
A friend's. He-he.
Good blend of lit and well, the other. Very tasteful though. Only quality stuff.
Hey where is David Hanson anyway? Haven't seen him around these parts in a while...
For what it's worth, I felt very welcome.
After skimming through a couple of threads, I've come to the conclusion that nobody's an asshole, even though the tone sometimes may come off as, well, condescending, it seems to me like it's all good and fun.
I like it here.
It's like a dysfunctional family dinner.
^ For "book people," this is a great bunch. Thank God for the internet...'cause it's near impossible to get a decent group of "book people" in the real world...
I love you guys like aborted fetuses.
Was that too much?
This is alien btw. I have a new name, a new face but same genitalia.
I knew it from your WordPress account. Stalking you guys because you're all dating material!
What Boone said, exactly.
Definitely not what VS or Laurance said.
Except for you, Dave. You are dating material.
Dave knows how to spoon.
And if you cover him with bacon grease you get a good seal.
I got my own lubricant.
What you dont like bacon grease?
So that's why my grandmother was so hardcore about saving bacon grease...
I see Book people.
I entered that in a contest once. Didn't win.
I was wondering where David Hanson has been.
And probably others who might rhyme with this poem but now it is ruined.
People don't really leave. They just lurk in the shadows.
Jeez...I'm not new, but even being gone for a month and coming back is intimidating. I have no idea what's going on! Hiya everyone!
Raelyn! Have you returned, are are you just saying hi and then disappearing again?
I'll be coming by every now and then. :) College is harder than I thought it would be. I've been practically living on campus and in the library. How has everyone been?
I left but jack convinced me back. It's better than the porn i'd be watching if i wasnt trolling on here.
Good to have you back Rae!! You should join the WAR thread!
WAR thread eh? Seems mighty similar to the Beyond Thunderdome thread. Is that still going or has everything been completely rewired?
Thunderdome is still going. WAR is the same thing, but tournament-style.
Oh. I thought they were dancing.
