And gone in five, four, three, two...
Q Clemente

@ Chester: It's just what came to mind. Neither being new or 1Q84 are that bad.
1Q84 is definitely not Murakami's best... and it is a phonebook of a novel that took a long time to get me invested. And by the end of that 900+ I didn't feel much return for said investment. Still, Murakami is much more about the journey than the final destination, and there are a lot of nifty little moments along the way. My personal feeling was that Murakami might believe everything in 1Q84 is essential, but there's a reason that even acclaimed writers have editors. 1Q84 could stand a diet, if you follow.
New is OK, too. Being a broke-ass student, I'm having problems coming up with the money for the workshop membership. Getting feedback on what I'm writing, as well as real experience editing fiction, are the big reasons I'm here. I don't feel quite right getting into long conversations with the community about writing when I haven't 'ponied-up' with my own work. Soon come, however.

1Q84 is definitely taking me a LOT longer to get through than any of Murakami's other stuff, many of which I re-read on a regular basis. This one gave me a hard time to get hooked into, and i'm still only 2/3 of the way through it, I have started getting more invested in it, so please no spoilers yet! I'm not as awestruck as I usually am by his stuff is all. Ah well, I'm older and harder to impress than I was when I found Sheep Chase.
