Virginia was named for England's "Virgin Queen," Elizabeth I. The Virginia General Assembly is the oldest legislature in the Western Hemisphere. Virginia held 2 of the 3 Capitals of Confederacy. · Dave Matthews Band is from Charlottesville. Lamb of God - heavy metal band Richmond. Jason Mraz - acoustic pop/rock, Mechanicsville. · Dave Grohl - grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. Kamloops doesn't have the typical B.C. scenery, because we're in this fucking dry valley and during the summer we get the hottest temperatures in all of the province. Over the past couple years, though, because of climate change, we've had more Vancouver-like weather. I love the rain.
Unfortunately I never take a lot of pictures around town, because it's sort of boring. There's some cool stuff around, though, lots of neat historical stuff. That's why I love comparing it to Red Dead Redemption, because it was a nice wild north-west town in the beginning. Probably one of the coolest places around Kamloops is the Tranquille Sanatorium. It used to be this full self-sustained farmed community where tuberculosis patients stayed. After that, it was a care center for the mentally challenged in the 50's. Then it was abandoned, and some Italian guy bought it to build this theme park, but he never actually did anything. All the buildings have been rotting since then, although apparantly a company has bought the land and plans on building a golf resort there. They say they're going to preserve what buildings they can and make a heritage site out of them, but who really knows...
My husband and I had our wedding pictures taken nearby, though:
It's like out-of-context old west! Plus you get to see how awesome my wedding was.
Also, here's a picture I did take at one of the disc golf courses in town at dusk. I did play with the colour a bit in Photoshop, but for the most part the sky was that cool purple colour.

The exact origin of the name remains a mystery.[6] In the early 1860s, when the United States Congress was considering organizing a new territory in the Rocky Mountains, eccentric lobbyist George M. Willing suggested the name "Idaho," which he claimed was derived from a Shoshone language term meaning "the sun comes from the mountains" or "gem of the mountains". Willing later claimed that he had made up the name himself.[7][8] Congress ultimately decided to name the area Colorado Territory when it was created in February 1861. Thinking they would get a jump on the name, locals named a community in Colorado "Idaho Springs".
However, the name "Idaho" did not go away. The same year Congress created Colorado Territory, a county called Idaho County was created in eastern Washington Territory. The county was named after a steamship named Idaho, which was launched on the Columbia River in 1860. It is unclear whether the steamship was named before or after Willing's claim was revealed. Regardless, a portion of Washington Territory, including Idaho County, was used to create Idaho Territory in 1863.
Despite this lack of evidence for the origin of the name, many textbooks well into the 20th century repeated as fact Willing's account that the name "Idaho" derived from the Shoshone term "ee-da-how".
The name "Idaho" may be derived from the Plains Apache word "ídaahę́" which means "enemy." The Comanches used this word to refer to the Idaho Territory.[9]
