Everyone knows that the internet is front and center in book marketing. What isn't clear is just what exactly is making the difference. This is a place to tell your stories. Hopefully if enough of us do so we can make sense of the noise and figure out what works and what doesn't work.

I continue to have success with the KDP at Amazon. I gave away a record number of books on Black Friday. I ended up on the free top 100 list before the day was out. Since then sales have been over 5x what they were previously and my financial book is ranked very high. We will see if it continues.

Here is an article from Squidoo which I found really helpful when setting up my last free campaign.

How does making the top 100 free list translate to sales afterwards? Will your book stay on the list even after you've begun charging for it? Does it get a badge saying it was once a top free book? Is it just word-of-mouth?

Not sure how he does it, but I've seen other authors have luck with giving one book away when they had others for sale.

It's advertising. People like it and buy his other stuff. No?

He did not say that he had more than one book available, but that might be a safe enough assumption.

Who's the best of us? On LR we've got a lot of published talent, but I'm fairly new and am curious as to whether there is an acknowledged... best.

Yes, it's you. We all know it. The WAR is a mere formality, your majesty.

Oh, gosh stop. Really, I dont know what to say, except I'd like to thank all the little people. (I think Bekanator might not like my wearing her crow though)

My question was an attempt to get an opinion or two in order to check out that persons previous work.. I'm bored, drinking tea in a fucking pub, and waiting for dexter to download. Whattya want?

@H.I. I'd say check back through some of the book of the month type discussions.  I know they've highlighted a couple of our very own in there.  also, check out the books n booze podcasts.  they have had a lot of guests who are published authors and regular posting members of this little group.

I think it'd be too hard to just say "blah blah blah is the best of this group."  There are so many published authors, some with novels, some with short stories all over the place, some with only 1 or 2 published shorts but really great ones.

Also, you make me jealous.  As I settle in to work each morning, you are posting your drunk thoughts from the pub, and it makes me wish i wasn't at work.  Please keep it up.

Flying rats. It doesn't matter. I've gotta go, besides I think we've gotten a bit off topic.

I checked I think he has 3 on Amazon.

Yes, I do have three on Amazon. You definitely get a sales bump from the free days. These can be long lasting. I was on a google hangout with four other authors last night where we discussed how valuable free days on Amazon can be. They can be really important for an indie-author. Really the more you give away the more you sell. It is word of mouth advertising. Think of it this way: just in the USA there are 112,000,000 households. How many of them do you need to purchase your book for it to be a runaway success? Only a very tiny percentage. So I can give away as many as I want and if the book is good people will talk about it and others will purchase it. It is one of the few proven models for the new publishing environment.

Sandra14 are you a marketing bot you have a lot in common with the commenters who inhabit the end of threads on low traffic web/blog sites.

Alex Jaden are you using the same list that Sandra14 is working off of?

Hey sonja, are you too a bot, yes you who, a bot who.

I'm thinking the shark net has a tear somewhere.

I appears I was a bit late in applying the tender mercies of my ban-hammer.  My apologies to all adversely affected.
