Hello, I'm Grigori. A couple of you might remember me from the Cult or other places. I mostly lurk. I write a bit, but nothing too serious yet. I've been hearing about Lit Reactor for a while now so I thought I'd check in and see what all the fuss is about.

I'm a US expat living in Europe for the moment on the government's dime. Though with all the major cutbacks we'll see where I'm living next week. I've had a few pieces of flash fiction published here and there and done freelance work for a couple of publications. I'm still feeling out my writing niche and haven't settled into a genre yet.

I'm just finishing up my degree at the end of the month. So come April I'll be tossing my hat into the writing arena once again.

Hey grigori I remember you from the cult. My handle there is noirkitty. I hardly go there anymore. Anyhow, welcome. You should join the workshop and vote on the stories in the deathmatch that just started. It's going to be rad.

I'll definitely start looking at the deathmatches. I'm a little disappointed that I came in too late for the 'War is the Answer' one. Ah well.

Grigori there's already a list started for next time and you might see about becoming an alternate ... Never know when like a plane is going to crash into like 5 houses at once in 5 different cities. Heh heh. You could ask Utah to either put you on the alternate list or the new list for next time. :-)

Yes, it's a bracelet. I have a matching torc to go with it. Though the bracelet isn't mine. You'll have to bribe my wife to get it.

Rasputin comes to mind.

Look forward to reading you, though I fret at the thought of facing Rasputin in War.

No relation to the mad monk (that I know of). Although it is actually my 'first' name. It suits me for a number of reasons. I have this uncanny knack for NOT dying when I should have. That and for whatever reason I am entropy, organizations die because of me. I haven't brought down a dynasty (yet), but I have had a hand in a regime change, shut down two governments, three military organizations, and at least two non-profit organizations. Groups inexplicably break up around me. People get hit by cars (on their wedding day no less), and come down with inexlicable diseases and ailments. Lives collapse. Pets disappear. It's uncanny. So if you have anything in your life that you love, value, or even remotely care about. Run. Run now.

On the other hand, if you have an ex you want to suffer, I can have coffee with them some weekend.

Oh hell no.

Do you know what happened to the last person who took my hat*???

You can't just give a hat away. A hat is something that reflects the personality of the owner. It's a mark of pride or devotion, the basis of rank for multiple organizations and religions, a trophy you take from a worthy adversary after mercilessly crushing them.

You've got to EARN the hat.

*Nobody does.

Unfortunately, I have to admit that my memory as far as the Cult goes is a little fuzzy. I started somewhere in april of 2010 about mid-descent into madness. By July I was doped up on a series of prescribed sleep meds that ended in vivid hallucinations (instead of sleep). After that they figured out what the problem was (auto-immune disorder) and got me the proper medication to get me right again. After that I faded from the Cult and got pulled into another project along with getting my master's degree. Now that I'm nearly finished with my degree, I'm delving back into writing again.

Wow I hope that you'll consider going gluten free. Many people have resolved their autoimmune disorders by going completely gluten free. :-)

Grigori Black's picture
Grigori Black from US is reading Hannibal Rising March 12, 2012 - 11:04am

@nikki

I wish it were that easy. By the time they figured it out, I'd already tried a dozen different things. Moderating my diet was the first thing. I cut out all the junk, soda, snacks, etc. and escaped processed food entirely.

Funny though, a lot of people I know have popped up with gluten problems over the past few years.

What happened was that my immune system decided to go Russian Spetnaz on my thyroid and completely annihilated it. Five different doctors over three years couldn't figure it out. If they had done the right test early on, they might have caught it.

Fifteen minutes with a German doctor and I had a diagnosis that he confirmed with an ultrasound. After that, things got easier. One pill a day for the rest of my life.

That sucks but on the other hand most people need synthroid by the time they are 50 anyhow so not that bad of a deal!

Grigori Black's picture
Grigori Black from US is reading Hannibal Rising March 12, 2012 - 11:09am

Yeah, true. It's just odd to me that after everything else through the years, my ticket was almost punched by a misdiagnosis.

Doesn't surprise me. But it is rather ironic since you've been in so much peril otherwise.
