Currently I'm keeping a spreadsheet of my submissions with the market, date submitted/returned, and editor's notes. All rejections, hah! What do you all use to track your submissions?

Also, how many entries do you have? I have 9 so far (awful, I know).

OK, I added my latest sub to duotrope - I've used it to find places to submit, but I've never used the submission tracking because the interface is so gnarly. I'm interested in seeing how accurate the  Estimated Response Time is.

I just use a folder in my email marked "submissions" then subfolders for rejections and acceptances. Though I really should get on top of duotrope.

Does duotrope have any rivals?

I need to start using duotrope's other features. I track mine in a spiral notebook, very high tech.

I've used duotrope for my last 2 subs, and I am liking it so far - its faster than looking through my email sent folder or digging up my google doc to find out how long ago I submitted.

Since I haven't gotten any responses from stories I've submitted, I haven't seen if there is a spot to enter editor's comments. I like to keep those on record and give them a look before I submit the story again.

Caleb does a spreadsheet in windows. If you submit through submishmash it tracks for you.

Does duotrope have any rivals?

There is Poets and Writers (www.pw.org not to be confused with writersandpoets.com which is self-publishing) and they have a huge listing of grants, awards, and contests for writers. But not in the way of a market listing as duotrope has.

Writer's Market does have a large market index, but it is not free...

Those two come to mind, but I'm sure there are more.

I was a member of the Writer's Market online service for a year, and I was not satisfied with the service. I can't attest to the accuracy or timeliness of their listings (compared to duotrope - maybe WM is better in that regard, who knows), but as far as features, duotrope is light years ahead (of course, this was a couple years back, maybe WM has updated their stuff.)

If there was money in it, I would start up a competing piece of software that had a halfway decent interface. Duotrope is great and all - but they need a serious UX overhaul.
