Hipsters like indie bands and indie films and indie publishing and ethical food and microbrews.
If all we have to do is put up with them being asshats about it, I'm all for having more of them because those are things I love.

99% of indie music and films are just horrible, I bet we disagree about what food ethics are, and I hate microbrews with passion. So for me it is someone pushing stuff I don't like and being a jerk about it.

Have we already covered the fact that Hipster is a term from the 1940's meaning a jazz aficionado, or was that at The Cult? So many sites in which I must stick up for my people.
It's really hard to judge an entire group that won't self identify. There are hipsters, and then there are hipsters. Some people dress in thrift clothing and drink PBR because it's cheap, some people do it for the fashion statement. Some people are just assholes.
I'm a young, white, writer living in downtown Oakland. I smoke American Spirits and drink whiskey. I read a lot, and prefer dive bars to clubs. Does that make me a hipster? Probably. Does it make me an asshole? Not necessarily.
I'm an asshole for a myriad of reasons, my jeans aren't one of them.
But I'm like, totally way more in the know than you about who the best bands are and where the best drugs are and who's going to be the biggest performance artist.

'Hipster' actually comes from 19th century opium dens.
There's no need to defend or attack hipsters. Taking pride in being called a hipster is just as idiotic as hating hipsters.
This all seems very petty.

The differrnce is that my experience with Jocks has been negative. Why do I doubt most people who hate on hipsters actually had a real experience with them?
On thing I love about being outcast? No stupid societal expectations.

Leave it to a spambot (sadly, no longer with us) to revive a much-loved hate thread. Thank you, C3PO.

It is impossible to have a "real experience" with them because they do not exist except in the mind of the perceiver. Hipsters [like Hell] are[/is] eternally "other people".

I'm just amazed folks to argue hipsters don't exist. I've seen a lot of hate at a lot of groups, but never one that people just deny is there before.
@JYH - Just because someone thinks something doesn't prove it isn't a fact. He also thinks the sun rises. http://youreahipster.tumblr.com/
