Hello all you fascinating writer types!!! My name is Kristi and I'm a wirte-a-holic... {Insert your "Hi Kristi" here!!} I have always had a love of reading and writing, but I actually I wanted to go to school and become an Art Teacher or major in Graphic Design. {I have a love hate relationship with Photoshop!} I also love photography. I guess you could say I am one of those right brained artsy fartsy types.

When I am not rearing my children and teaching them to be upstanding citizens, I am reading and writing. I write everything, poetry, short stories, and just this year I decided to take a crack at my first novel, my love of Sci-Fi & Fantasy has lead me to the Young Adult Dystopian Genre. If I'm lucky one day you will get to read my book {I'm about 1/3 of the way done!!}

I am a HUGE Nerd... see that CAPITAL "N" nerd. I love Star Wars and Mystery Science Theater and Marvel Comics...Oh My!

My goal as a writer is what I think any writer’s goal would be, to put forth the best possible version of the best possible story and have it published and become rich and famous. Sell the rights to a major motion picture company and then roll around in all the money I've made while letting out a maniacal laugh. Well, I guess that maybe a bit over zealous for my first attempt at writing a novel.

I would however like to learn and grow and hopefully get published. Make connections in the business and have fun along the way, because isn't that why we write? Because we love to, because we love the process?  Finding the perfect character, and toiling away making the perfect setting, the perfect plot and then twisting it all around so the said character is taken on an amazingly wild journey that everyone one who reads the New York Times Best Sellers List wants to go on too?

Yes, that’s it, the last paragraph, that’s what my goal as a writer is.

So if you have any questions or comments or just wanna say hey lemme know, drop me a line & I will holla-back-atcha!

Hi.

Others will be along shortly to chide you for not being snarky enough.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Kristi. Do yourself a favor and stay off Dwayne's lawn. He's weirdly affectionate toward his grass.

I don't make a habit of being on anyone... and as for Dwayne's lawn (whom I haven't yet met)... I usually take my shoes off so I can sink my toes in, but only if it's one of those plush green Tru Green Chem. Lawn lawns, if it's brown and crusty and dead we won't have a problem!  As for a favor... a favor... hmmm... have to think about that... I don't usually dole out favors! :P

If I had a literal lawn, which I don't, you'd be welcome on it in a if-you-happened-in-the-area-and-thought-that-was-a-funny-pic way. Not in a creep-me-out-stand-on-it-without-telling-me-at-2AM way.

But  I don't, so I'm guessing what he means Kristi is I've been known to believe things I've seen over abstract theory and suggest that maybe having your M.C. randomly pee in a cup in a restaurant for shock value doesn't move the story towards a good place. Plus that is over done. Around here that makes me the grumpy old man because... I don't know, maybe they are bad with metaphors. but I do know that the title of your thread was a Home Improvement reference. Why do I never see that in syndication? You'd think that something on for almost 10 years would be on more. I mean, I'm sure it is, but I never see it.

But welcome to the site.

I have no idea what Dayne is talking baout, or any of these people, really.

However, I am YOUR Defender of the People!  Which means I'm a moderator with a badass name.  If you have any issues you need defending from, you can ask me about it.  Also questions.  Concerns.  Praise.

Have a look around the site!  Hope you like it.

Everything Nathan said is true. It's hard for me to make friends because he shanks anyone who gets close to me. He also peed on my front porch. I mean, I can't prove it was him, but I just know.

Avery, defend!

I didn't even realize it was a Home Improvement quote until after Dwayne posted about it...

Dwayne...how about, I will kind of creepily stand in my own hypothetical lawn looking into your hypothetical lawn at 2 in the morning? Too creepy? I guess so. I think I am more concerned that Tim is not invited to this secret private pee party that seems to be taking place on his hypothetical front porch, or could it be his actual front porch? I'm not quiet sure how close he lives to Nathan. Let's also play a game I like to call how many time can Kristi type hypothetical in one post... and go!

Anyway bringing it all back around I pee in a cup for no one! {except my doctor and only if he asks nicely!} Fight the power?

Avery, I think this is the part of the thread where everyone gets to decide if I am A True Jedi Master or just a Padawan Learner when it comes to witty quips and come backs and tongue and cheek humor?! {yes I said tounge and cheek, run wild with it!}

PS. I posted a snippet in the "work in progress thread" so please take a gander I am hungry for feed back! I tip my hat to Tim for taking the time to read and comment so promptly!

What you do on your own lawn, of any type, is none of my business. I'm firmly convinced most people need to learn to mind their own business, so I'll lead by example and not comment on it further.

welcome. so, are you writing now? if so, what are you working on? i don't read ENOUGH YA dystopian, but obviously HUNGER GAMES is in there. Westerfeld's stuff looks good, haven't really dug in too deep. have yo picked up China Mieville's PERDIDO STREET STATION? not YA, but you might dig it. What writers have influenced you, who do you like to read? i grew up with King-Straub-Koontz-Barker as well as Grisham and then the obvious stuff in HS/College, into the Beats there, then found Palahniuk which got me to a bunch of neo-noir, and now i read a wide range of stuff, literary versions of horror, F/SF, crime, southern gothic. been writing some magical realism lately.

my column STORYVILLE may be of some help to you
