Many thanks and congratulations to everyone who submitted to the Flash Me! thread last month. Damn, you gave me a few tough calls to make.

The were more than 15 subs, and I flat out failed to whittle them down to five. So I went with six instead. I was very impressed by the mixture of styles and genres, good work people.

This poll will run for one week, and seeing as Chester's 'blind' format seemed to work well last month I'm sticking with it. Of course you could always go back over the Flash Me thread if you are desperate to know who wrote what, but it is encouraged that you read the attached document instead and simply vote for your favorite. The final six come to just four and a half thousand words between them, so it isn't too much to read.

The prize for the winner is a book from Chester, plus a slot on my website Solarcide.

Rock the fuck on, you awesome peoples.

Also, I had to make up the document on a borrowed laptop as I am not at home this week. Apple computers confuse the shit out of me but I think the file is all good. Let me know if there are any issues though.

Also, many thanks to Chester for letting me borrow his car for a month. A real flashy ride, that one. I had fun picking these.

Great Job Martin. You drive the flashy car better than I ever did.

I might have to leave you the keys.

This is cool seeing it from this perspective.

Good luck everyone and as always thanks for flashing!

Did you vote yet Chester? If not, then do you want to hang on and be the tie-breaker in case of emergency?

If you already voted and it does end in a tie then I will ask Nathan to be the final vote.

When is the deadline?

wickedvoodoo's picture
wickedvoodoo from Mansfield, England is reading stuff. May 6, 2012 - 2:57pm

Midday on the 8th, UK. So, errr about 8 in the morning for you? Tuesday morning anyhow.

Chester Pane's picture

Okay. I will wait.

These are all so great. I really like Angel, Afterlife and Jack?

So I guess I will have to look at the Results?

I hate doing that.

Or I could just vote and let the dice fall and then Nathan could break it if there is still one after that?

Afterlife is so funny and borderline bizarro.

Angel is sci-fi but organic sci-fi, which I really enjoy.

Jack? Is a bit spooky and unpredictable, also obscure.

But this is not to say I didn't enjoy War and Gulls. Gulls achieves a lot with brevity--very challenging--whoever wrote that get your ass to the Flash Main Page 250 word gig if you haven't already.

War is very palpable--realism. And the writing is exceptional.

So, fuck. Always hard to call. I will brood and brood.

I think I want that Van Gogh ear, though. I want to tell it something.

Ooooooh! This should prove interesting down to the wire. Votes comin' in from DOWNUNDAH!

So it looks like a lead has broken.

Still very interesting though, people:

  • First prize is six months of Workshop AND story published in SOLARCIDE
  • Second prize is a Hawthorne Book

That means that tight second place race up there is the one to watch, but first place is still doable!

Oh, yeah I forgot about the workshop prize. Damn, you are a good fellow. Always upping the game.

Fair enough, I can't match your awesome generosity, but I can raise the bet a little on my end too.

How about,

  • First prize is six months of workshop subscription plus published in our not-so-secret-super-top-secret project planned for Solarcide this summer.
  • Second prize is a Hawthorne Book plus published on the Solarcide website
  • Third prize is published on the Solarcide website

Last minute betting right there. Still time left to vote for your favorite!

Okay, so by my clock the seven days are up and we are done here!!!

Good stuff. Many thanks to everyone that voted. Many thanks. And congratulations to Pandamask, Bill Tiucker, Covewriter, Fritz Wolf, Aliensoul, & Profunda. Good peoples, each and every one.

Without further ado, your winners:

First Place: Jack? by Fritz Wolf -

Second Place: Afterlife Mixer by Aliensoul7

Third Place: The War by Covewriter.

Each of you will receive a at least one PM in the near future regarding your prizes. I will be getting in touch either today, or tomorrow, regarding the Solarcide stuff. And Chessie don't bite, he'll drop you a line before too long I imagine.

Many thanks again to all. I had lots of good fun as guest judge. Some tough calls to make, but some awesome stories as a result. We'll have to do it again sometime.

Still want more flash? Well get your asses over to that 250 word, egg-hunt competition for May. The flashing never stops! Eggstravaganza!

Congrats to the victors!  An excellent Flash month with exceptional entries.  Also, thanks to everyone who thought Angel was their second favorite.  While I knew I wasn't going to win when I read the entries, I'm glad people had enough positive feedback to mention it.  I just may blow that out to a 5,000 worder as I had to trim 500 from it for the contest.

Damn, I loves me some Flash!

Chester Pane's picture

Great Job guys. Great stories. Damn, Profunda has been in a number of these. And Covewriter is getting on a roller with a couple of great appearances.

Fritz, that is probably my favorite piece of yours yet.

And Danny, I actually picked yours as my favorite of the bunch.

Bill, I think you should expand that. And I wouldn't judge the quality based on 'votes' because I think Angel is innovative and original.

So Fritz will now have to get his ass in the Workshop for six months--I will get you activated.

Danny, PM me your book choice from Hawthorne Books and I will shoot it up North. Oh, and your address.

Thanks to everyone who participated and like Martin said, hit the Flash Eggstravaganza, it is 250 words.
