While I, for identical reasons, voted for both of you.
Those were both good stories. I read them back to back and my boss walked by my office and was like, "Are you crying?" and I had to say, "Well, you know, we found out it's going to be a little girl and it's just so beautiful, they made an image of her face and stuff," when really that was yesterday and I'm over it and it was your stories that made me tear up a bit.
Good job, guys.
the coolest thing about these battles is that it's forcing us to write with deadlines and parameters. i know that coming out of this battle, i'll have a good story that i can send out. and i know out of the upcoming brackets of battles that i'll also get some good work done. i'm always thrilled to see such excellent work coming out of these workshops. i hope you guys are sending out your work. i know both of the anthologies are going to be really solid as well. very cool.
oh, and thanks averydoll for setting up the poll. you're the best.
good battle, LK, was pretty close, yeah? and i liked your story too. you have my mailing address from the story. can i change my selection to Cormac McCarthy's OUTER DARK? i'd love a hardcover 1st edition, but i imagine those are hard to find, and expensive. so, any edition is fine. that will just about complete my Cormac collection. or did we say something about Bukowski? i thought we talked Hunger Games, but I'd prefer the Cormac. i'll leave it up to you, LK.
you should be pretty stoked that seven people voted for you, that really kind of makes me angry and a little worried (angry at myself, worried about the tournament). i'll have to up my game, i was shooting for complete domination.
and thanks for challenging me, had a grea time doing this. good luck in the tournament.
I believe it was for a Bukowski book of mine. (Post Office, Ham On Rye, Pulp, Pleasures of the Damned)
However, I'll look the book up because with Prime it may cost about the same to send you that book as it would to pay shipping and packaging for one of my own.
i was shooting for complete domination
This might sound pretentious over the internet, but I think it was more of my concept vs. your writing ability. I think my descriptions and how it flowed like poetry to describe her, the poet, was pretty experimental and to convince people they're walking in the sad shoes of an older man dillusional and desperate enough to keep sleeping with his dead wife is pretty different as far as necrophilia stories go. As several other LR members put it, my problem was the lack of "meat & potato" story plot. If I could have found a better way to make this have a more structured story progression, I think you would have had an even more serious run for your money. Yours was written exceptionally well though, and even with a draft workshopped I was still no match for a writer of your caliber.
That said, it appears that if we both have a winning streak we will face off again in WAR.
Prepare to:

But really, thanks for the opportunity!
lol...yeah, i thought this vote was closed?
i'm cool with the Bukowski too, i don't have any of those, but if you can manage the Cormac, that would be awesome. awesomer.
it was an excellent battle, LK, and it was actually pretty close, so feel good about that. definitely showed me that i can't take this competition lightly (not that i did)
oh, the # symbol is just used to end a scene, some people use # or ### or * or *** or • or ••• just a way of separating scenes within a short story. in a novel, you'd use chapters. i've also used chapter or numbered sections in short stories before too.
and yes, JUN, if you beat me, i'll send you a signed copy of Transubstantiate. although, i don't know why i'm providing extra incentive to anybody to try HARDER to beat me. i already feel like there's a target on my back. and on my front.
shoot me your mailing address LK, pm me with that.
