What Meat Seeker said. When I was 19 I worked for an airline and lived alone. At times I lived off of airline snacks, and a real treat was when the terminating flights didn't get rid of all the little cordon bleu sandwiches so we got to take them.
It's cliche as shit but it builds character.

Buy a big bag of brown rice. It may sound like an important investment at first, but it's worth the expense. When you're flow you can eat fresh food and keep the rice for the meager. There are countless variations to the rice, steam it and put some baked veggies on the side. When dumpster diving, vegetables are a sure shot: you can tell by the odor what's their degree of unfreshness. Again in the dumpster, you can go for processed food that is not so much overdue. It's a risk, but if you score the right chemical balance there's the added value of intoxication-induced altered states of consciousness.
Dont' try this at home.
I second Nick on the soup. Soup and bread is always good food.

Chester: The van at times did park near a river. But mainly it parked behind shitty dive bars. Of course there was no airline food. Just Peanut Butter. Yes, the capitals are for respect.

I guess the nice thing about peanut butter is that you don't have to stop the van for necessity breaks quite as often.

It's true. We did drive around a lot. Which was maybe stupid, because gas costs more than food. But being 18 and getting in a van with five guys you meet in the local cesspool is also probably stupid. Live & learn.

A girl I worked with met a guy at a gas station and really hit it off with him. She parked her car behind the station and got in the car with him and off they went!
At least that is what was gathered from the witnesses at the gas station.

Potted meat and dry ramen noodles. A lot of alcohol and water. Great pointers on the rice, bread and soup.
