Dub step is terrible. Electronica, Electro, and Electro House I love. There's really good electronica and shitty (few people can tell the difference). Most of that music is just for rave kids to dance to when they're rolling on E.

"when they're rolling on E. "
I guess this is why I thought there was no such thing as techno anymore. I also had no idea this was still a thing. Do...do kids still go to raves? Is that a thing?
I really am not old enough to be this out of touch. Or maybe I am. Somewhere between the day my friend explained to me how she would shove E up her butt like a suppository and today I made some sort of conscious decision to become out of touch I think.
PandaMask
from Los Angeles is reading More Than HumanFebruary 15, 2012 - 6:06pm
Yeah there are really big raves like HARD, Electric Daisy Carnival, and a lot of others. The music is mostly used to amplify whatever you're feeling when you're on E. There's different kinds of E also. Some are mixed with a little bit of acid. Some are called Molly's I think and have different colors, which helps distinguish good and bad pills sometimes.
"Rolling" is just the term used when you're on E.
Also when you're on E lights amplify the high. Which is why you have people performing "light shows".

These chicks need to get a job. Also, I thought E was passé and kind-of, sorta made your brain swiss cheese. Here is how old I am, once upon a time I was an actual Trance DJ and, even I didn't know about the candy bull shit. I think the only conciliation with realizing I am getting old (31) is the fact that I am turning into the "I don't give a damn" old guy. It's kind of nice.

Orignally there wasn't much of an age limit. Now the limit is 18. A girl died at EDC two years ago. After that they set an age limit and moved EDC to Las Vegas instead of LA. A couple people died at the Texas one also.
I don't know about turning your brain into swiss cheese. It might.
There's the term E-tards for people who roll all the time, sometimes for days.
Supposedly it kills cells in your brain that make you happy, so you end up becoming very depressed after taking E which is called the "come down". It leaves you at a vulnerable state where you might want to kill yourself.

Molly is pure MDMA. I wouldn't trust anything in tab form. E pills aren't cut with anything. E pills probably have 2 percent MDMA in them.
I don't trust blotters either. Stick with the liquid.

Most talented dubstep artists were already doing things in the electronic genre, dubstep just became a trendy thing and they slapped it on themselves to better market.
A band called RazedNBlack is a good example of that, they were good before, but changed slightly to jump on the marketing train.
As for the scene itself? It is like a bunch of people gave drug addled hippies computers.

So I saw a random dubstep DJ last night. And I think I finally "got it", even though I'm still not a fan.
Dubstep is a genre primarily defined by a single noise and drop. This is kind of unique in terms of musical genres. All metal bands, for instance, aren't defined by a single riff.
So the benefit to this is, a fan of dubstep can literally see any dubstep dj and feel like they know the songs. It's kind of like when you go see a band you don't really know - once they play a hit, you kind of enjoy the show but when they play the b-sides you're like WTF is this shit?
So in terms of live music, especially dance music, that probably makes a hell of a lot of sense.

It's a pity that dubstep is known just for the wubs. It actually comes from abandoned and reoccupied industrial neighborhoods. It's originally expression of West Indian and African metropolitan youth in the overdeveloped world. Along with Grime, it spread through independent pirate radio stations whose antennas where moved from time to time when the police went to seize them, and for many meant a way of redemption from a life defined by dirty air and dead-end jobs.
I like the drawback feeling of the rhythm, with the beat that's marked only once per measure, giving the illusion of a 70 bpm which is instead a 140 bpm.

IMO - If Burial and Skrillex are both dubstep, then asking someone if they like dubstep is like asking someone if they like rock -- which is a valid question and all, but some kind of specificity must surely follow, e.g. "I like X, Y and Z, but not A, B or C."
