Fantastic advice. I'm trying to stop nit-picking so much so early. But I really need some crit-partners/beta readers. It's just in my nature to distrust my own opinion on things. Other people's too, but by cross-referencing opinions, and knowing that I TRUST the opinions I get, that's when I become most comfortable with stuff.
I also agree so so so much with number two. It can be really disheartening when someone critiques your piece, and concentrates on how they would have worded things, when really what would be most helpful is the big stuff. The flow of plot points and the build-up of character development.
