Huzzah, then it's on like Donkey... ya know, from Shrek. Yeah, and in the morning, I'm making waffles. Bitches.
So, now for a prompt, and make it a good one, not a frustratingly obscure one we have to spend half the week brainstorming some lame-ass semi-connected story idea. Bitches.

Your prompt, sirs:
Strange Photon
from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyricsJune 28, 2013 - 10:13am
YES!!!!!!
That fucking rocks! I'm already jazzed about this to such an extent that I don't even mind the threeway nature of this battle one bit.
So, Sound and Ren, should we say one draft, 4k max limit, due to whoever volunteers to make the poll by next Friday (July 5th) no later than midnight? Or would you guys like to push it to July 7th (a week from this coming Sunday) so that we will have two consecutive weekends to work, should the weekdays prove to be too hectic?
It's up to you guys.

Ok, so Sunday, July 7th. We get our stories to Sound no later than midnight, and he builds the poll as soon as he can, but doesn't have to stay up to do it right at midnight. That'd just be mean, and the asskicking he's gonna get is already enough meanness. ;)

I'd like to do the 7 in 7 days thing, yeah, around the 14th or 15th. The idea does need a little development and maybe if it gets worked out a bit more I could make a discussion about it and maybe more people would want to jump in on the mini-write-a-thon.

Hey Jonathan, if you google that guy Renfield mentioned it might help you out. It gave me additional context, though I have to say that my idea, if it pans out, will be something inspired by the picture, rather than specifically tied to it. I think that's okay, right?
Jonathan Riley
from Memphis, Tennessee is reading Flashover by Gordon Highland July 4, 2013 - 7:16pm
Yeah that's perfectly fine. I'm halfway joking. I mean I see some things in the picture. It doesn't really matter where it came from. Hopefully I'll have something soon. I haven't had time to think about it.
Dino Parenti
from Los Angeles is reading Everything He Gets His Hands OnJuly 5, 2013 - 10:58am
I don't think the picture is about anything specific that needs to go into a story. More of a feeling or evocation: think the exotic, isolation, loneliness, etc. A last-man-on-Earth scenario quickly comes to mind, or someplace primed for terra-forming. Or a desert landscape where two people make a last stand against some outside force or each other. I doubt that with anything you write, someone's going to say, "Bullshit, that doesn't follow the prompt."

It is with no small amount of regret that JR and I inform you of a delay in the commencement of our battle of wits and wisdom and general textual tomfoolery.
I believe we are delaying until next Sunday, if memory serves.
Yes yes, I can hear the wails of despair and disappointment. But fear not! Seven days is naught but the barest beat of a heart within the schema of a lifetime.
Thank you for reading.

But just to tide you over, because I know you're dying for a taste!
“Bother all that,” Bleeds mumbled as he licked each of his bristly knuckles clean of sauce and meat, then wiped his spittle on the front of his splotchy robe. A bead of sweat dribbled from his brow and onto his bulbous nose. Finally, all wince and wobble and heft, he grabbed his stick and shuffled outside to get a view of the up above, where mad men dashed on melting soles and sticky pitch, where climbers striped the mess hall’s walls, and water wagons, backed up against each ladder, quickly depleted. Brawny men drooped and stuttered like dying marionettes, soaked from filling and heaving massive water buckets from the wagons to the ladders to the roof, where the fire only showed signs of growing, not slowing. Thick timbers burned and the roof began to crater as the summer-red sun fed its kin. Men steamed, too, or seemed to be. So close to the flames, so difficult to extinguish, so hot the perimeter, so much human effort evaporated along with the water, into the ether. Where there wasn’t steam or fire or smoke there was scorching air bent back over itself, shimmering down the walls, and what shimmered soon found itself in flame.
Now aren't you soooooo excited???
